Surely the only people paying the "pushed up" prices for the over-graded coins are the amateur investors themselves? I know I certainly don't bid more on a GEF coin just because some pillock has graded it as aUNC. While grading is very subjective, it doesn't detract from my ability to assign a price that I would pay for any coin to go into my collection.

Word might have everything you need? Have you looked into the forms they use or the macros you can set up to create forms? I used to have to run various reports on word for different clients using the same raw data and I managed to set up the doc to pull the figures from an Excel sheet in a pre-defined location and then populate the rest of the document depending on who the client was. You can sort out the snap to grid features as well to allow more flexibility. It might be relevant to your needs, but if it is you might save a few quid.

I think everyone here loves giving their opinion on coins so I doubt you'll cause much of a headache posting up for help It's not too bad, much better crispness to the obverse than the reverse and the price is... OK. The reverse really lets it down though, and there's some ghosting going on too (where the bust is visible through the reverse). It all depends on your collecting needs though, some people don't go for high grade while others/most do.. Best thing to do is to get yourself some books in your area of collecting to brush up on knowledge, there are some great books available through this website too. If you want a rough price guide - and please don't treat it as gospel - then I highly recommend Tony's site (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/), I've always got it open as a quick reference and it's great for additional information as well as the prices! (I also love the mugshot he puts on his homepage )

1* + C is the rarest combination of the 1908's, you're correct there. Groom notes that the are minor varieties where there are different date spacings, as such; 1. A short 9 with a narrow date. The 8 is centered over a space between teeth. 2. A short 9 with a wider date. The 8 is centered over the left of a tooth. 3. A longer 9 with a very wide date. The 8 is centered over a tooth. That makes sense, I suppose it's just a case of waiting for the highly unavailable coins to actually surface for there to be a new 'highest' price set. From reading the Baldwins introduction into this collection, they mention that it was a decade long endeavour obtaining all of the sovereigns. Is there any reference to the 1937 proof sovereign being sold into the Hemisphere collection? I wonder how much was paid for it then...

Has anyone else seen the blog the Royal Mint released about the 1937 proof sovereign? Apparently it realised £516,000?! There was also a 1953 proof sovereign which took in £384,000... They say the Edward VIII sov. is the most expensive British coin ever sold.. Link

Just for an alternative option, I write a small reference on the rear bottom corner and then store all the details digitally against that reference. I just feel that a lot of info on the front of my flips takes my attention away from the coin itself, but of course that's just preference..

Although it's a little better than the first as it claims the coins have been struck using the silver recovered from the ship. I quite like that idea!

Thanks Scott. Yea I noticed quite a few varieties of each type just no others with the lower bust and mint mark to the left of the ribbon. Yes I agree, though I had a hard time of it when hunting down the second issue reichspfennigs of the Third Reich. I didn't do the notgeld piece justice with my photography but the original image does Lovely coin Damian. Not my area but really enjoying the detail!

I think what was meant by scrap was that the cost of them is equal too, if not lower than scrap "value" as opposed to being worthless chunks of metal that are no use to anyone. What you have are nice but inexpensive coins, but don't let that detract from it - Peck makes an excellent point here.

Just an eBay seller using Estate Agent style descriptions IMO. He also states the contradictory "As struck with minimal wear" So the coin is EF, GVF and AS - take your pick!
