It's a strange one, everything else has the detail. As a guess perhaps the edge was ground from the reverse side downwards and then finished by lightly polishing the edge around the obverse rim to get rid of the bits that were proud (and missing the part above F:D). The final polishing wearing out the obverse beads maybe?

I was looking at that too, the giveaway for me was above the F:D (obverse) where the rim is proud of the coin. Gotta be a grinder jobby!

The most important question is..do you think you should get the 1951 for the dragon? It's what you like Sweep, if you think that's best then go for it! And I'd trawl through eBay, look on auction sites, check dealer's sites etc. Try This Link for a nice long list of various dealer's websites, you'll find some good buys if you search hard enough.

Ed VII Half-crowns get expensive depending on the dates and in my opinion the florins are one of the better designs anywho.. Having said that... getting one in EF might cost you a bit more than £30. If you want a nice detail Eddy silver coin without breaking the bank, I'd suggest looking at a sixpence/threepence. HOWEVER...the H/C and florins are totally worth the money if you're willing to spend it.

While building my 50p collection I bought a kew gardens 50p from eBay, that was about a year a go. It was listed as 'low mintage rare kew gardens 50p' and I was the winning bidder at £3.20. Now that press release came out and the hype has calmed a bit, they're £30 minimum. It's just funny because the seller I bought from knew how many had been minted, as did I, and we both knew the comparable rarity. But because the news says it's rare, that makes it EVEN rarer? Just glad I got mine when I did so I didn't have to pay the 'press premium'.

What you want to do (and I imagine this has been done before large bids start getting placed) is message the seller to inform him of the correct description and advise that his misrepresentation may be misleading to others who might not be aware. Then, if he doesn't change the description, it's free-for-all. I'm sure that would stand up in court if you had copies of the correspondence.. And I agree with Colin, while it might not be good practice to do this it's definitely being done for the right reasons.

What sort of grades are you looking for too? I could pull out most of those dates for you quite easily from bags of worn pennies, in EF upwards though it's a much smaller number.

It annoys me more than anything when looking at a coin prefixed with "Rare" or "Error" but no explanation as to what the rarity/error in concern is.. Is it because it's a proof? (read:it's not a proof)
