I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with you Rash, all the normal markers are pointing to it being one. What can you see we can't? Londoncoins seem to think it's one too and it wouldn't be good for them to be selling this for ££££ if it's not legit.

Terry, I spotted this while on ebay, this one has the beginnings of a die clog on the V but not yet on the N. It's a 1940 double exergue.

Yeah definitely cleaned, I imagine to get rid of any verd it had because there's a spot left where the tide meets Britannia's legs.

It's not clear cut as to what determines a variety but I think any serious collector would only take design changes into account, whether it's just adding an extra tooth in the border, it's still a change. Things like dot flaws, filled dies and I guess to some extent when they repunch numbers slightly off center to the original are more just nice to have as an example because it's a little different to the norm. I guess the subjectiveness here is the definition of what a new design is.

I'd say that's pretty accurate, based on what I've seen from watching/buying lots and also starting them at a price I would be 'happy' to take for a coin but is something under its real value, I've not attracted nearly as much interest as a 99p starter. On the 99p lots it's normally the first 2 days gaining watchers and a bid or 2 at 99p, then the next 4 days getting to about half its value and picking up a couple of extra watchers and finally a mad rush of bids at about 5-20 seconds before it finishes. Whereas higher starters just grab a bid or 2 and to be honest I do sometimes myself skip past them, there's certainly an attraction to a 99p starter.

What do they do when they keep that many coins together, does it just belong to a museum or several or..?

I think there's some sort of ranking on the pages where some are completely open to be edited and some are locked. I've edited one, once, and it did it straight away without any problems. It was the article on 50ps. And water under the bridge of course Rob

That's a goodun, worth every penny. The strikes on the later series are truly wonderful, especially the reverses.

Wow amazing tokens Paulus, especially the halfpenny from Somerset, the design is great! Looks like Brg has some competition I want to start collecting conders one day, I love the history and probably the designs more than anything, but any examples I see in a nice condition always seem to be in the hundreds. I actually saw a really nice jeton from Nuremberg recently and the design was amazing, it's called something like 'the pennymaster' and it has an almost full alphabet on the reverse!

The easiest tell tale is that massive border but for confirmation the right serif of the second 'N' in PENNY should point between two teeth.

Again, it was banter, nothing more. Being under 30 on a forum where the average age is much higher you can appreciate that it is vey condecending to compare me to your kids and this was my point. I'll remind myself not to banter with you Rob and if your kids' first port of call is to google everything then that's a shame. It's very much an Internet phenomenon and so the most appropriate media to find information on it, would be the Internet, hence my suggestion. I don't like the fact that you assume I just google everything either because I'm young or because I suggested for you to do so.
