Regarding lot 2466 - the milled edge penny, I thought I remembered reading in Freeman somewhere that any milled edge coins are post mint alterations, but after scanning the book I just can't find where I read that. Can anyone remember an excerpt to this effect, maybe it wasn't Freeman but I'm sure I read it somewhere.

You can also get the same sort of 'shelf' doubling from incorrectly hubbing a die, there's a handful of ways that it can happen and it's not uncommon to have the doubling on just a colon, but it would take some investigating to work out if it was that or like you say just the handy work of the engraver.

I love all these tokens, especially the provincial conders. So much to investigate and learn from a single design, you can really delve into the history behind them which is more interesting than just getting another year with the same design. BRG has helped me out a lot with information, although I'm yet to get my first one. I want to start with a nice one with a bit of lustre but they're so damn expensive! What did that set you back Paul? You've got a couple now right?

I remember reading a couple of years back when Ian Murrey got a briefcase stolen out of his car with quite a bit of stock in it. That was a smash and grab type job. Security would be better at these things, or at least more visible security.

Considering over 100 million were struck, I found this one of the harder dates to find in top grade/with a good strike. I think this would be my 3rd upgrade, but definitely getting there. Very happy.

Correct, bigger every 3 months and March is the first big one of the year. You'll enjoy it, it's a great fair with many friendly people and you'll meet a few of the members on here at that fair too. Have fun in Rome also!
