  1. It was well known in the sixties what the rare dates were so it should have been picked clean of them . You might get more money from scrapping them (I hate to say it but its prob true)
  2. Sorry hungarian
  3. looks like polish coins and german infation money well worth a £10 I am sure one coin is worth at least that
  4. Thats the promise with notes and coins I'm afraid - "I promise to pay the bearer the sum of five pounds" Its never been negotiable or anything
  5. If you intend to invest for maximum price growth I would surgest you invest in the rabidly growing market of china and india
  6. All copper halfpennies of victoria a pretty rare in top grades the exceptions are 1841 (due to a recent hoard) 1853, 1854 and 1858
  7. Yes you often see these plates on antique fairs at a pound or two each - they cost £10-£15 when new . The royal mint in the seventies produced many special issues of coins as an investment , they turned out anything but, of course you are talking a different time but in general see the words "investment piece" and run for the hills , For many years I have just bought what I liked and will carry on that way
  8. Hey there the USA mint has been producing coins along these lines for a while - I am pretty sure the royal mint has copied them. They are suitable as a special high value present or keepsake I don't think is feasable to buy them every year- and if they are popular they will be produced every year.
  9. While the coin "business" is not much different to many others - the main problem is turning stock over fast enough to feed yourself and family and give yourself a reasonable income. Remember coins dont turn over at the rate that meat does in a butchers shop , they are dead money for the entire length of time they are in a dealers tray. This is why your more likely to get offers on a farthing collection of queen victoria and NOT George V (All dealers suffer these coins sticking in their trays)
  10. I have alway thought there were more varieties of this date around . Makes collecting a bit more interesting
  11. Or throw them on the pavement like the rest of the population
  12. Just proves the old addage "A fool and his money are soon parted "
  13. Maybe the lighthouse signifies the fact we are an island nation allbeit in a very different form.
  14. There have been rumours about these sorts of things for years the last time it was a 2008 shield 20p with a letter 1 on it - that was never proved . Can anyone not realise that the royal mint now and the royal mint in 1861 are totally different , no a, b, and c mintmarks etc . Mistakes and mintmarks hardly ever exist in the 21st century (ok there have been a couple) You would think this country was going backwards tecnologically if you listened to some people
  15. agreed thats why i think original post was a load of rubbish
  16. I have a peter rabbit coin with a number 2 on it - I dropped it down the loo

  21. they should try charging cats that get stuck up trees as well, after all they have bigger brains than some humans. I think those teenagers wearing jeans and a tshirt that get stuck on snowdon in november are pretty stupid as well
  22. they did circulate and are a lot harder in mint than most would imagine
  23. Hundreds of sausage dogs don Christmas jumpers in Leeds - BBC News.html
