  1. That's Derek's listing (Red Riley on this forum). As Nordle said, it really depends on what grade you want to collect as to whether you bid. Coins 'speak' to you when they are attractive in your eyes so that you might accept a lower grade piece when it has a lot of eye appeal. If you like it contact Derek through his profile here to see if you can do a deal outside ebay save some money
  2. I'm learning
  3. It's a pity it comes from a smoke-free home, otherwise it might have restored a bit of toning to the coin. Or is that just wishful thinking?Looked at the pic first and thought of florin/shilling then flipped it over Crippens acid was probably weaker
  4. Still loads of dross
  5. I'd leave a comment like "Ex high grades due to poor packaging"
  6. Yep the date stamps come in various sizes. Michael gouby has lots on his site, unfortunatley he has cut the links at the mo
  7. Not sure what your question is
  8. We'll apart from coin five. I'm quite happy with my grades as I'm not too far off The 1821 should still sell well on the bay
  9. I would just give it a reference number. Ie shilling one penny one etc Then i would have all the details on a database with photos price paid when and where bought etc
  10. You may rest assured that I do not have, nor have I ever had a narrow date 1877 penny. However, should I inadvertently acquire an uncirculated example, I will have to consider what to do with it............Sorry ...got confused between me Rob's and me Bob's....A bit like the mint they kept getting their R's and B's mixed up
  11. Its a question of completing a collection ...any serious collector of bronze pennies knows that there are only a very limited number of R18+ pennies available to them and in the case of the 1877 narrow date they might only get an opportunity once or twice to buy one....and none of them are in high grade. I think Bobs was quite a high grade
  12. Just cant see me spending that amount of money for a coin that looks so poor, i know its rare but id rather spend my money on something that looks better Each to his/her own though
  13. You've correctly identified the variety, now you have to grade it correctly. certified
  14. As of now,any body know more http://www.michael-coins.co.uk/
  15. To me loks like slightly too small a flan. The coin looks too circular to have been done with a grinder,if you could see the edge it would be a give away

  20. Yes, the BNJs are a great resource. And of course you can pick and choose articles at leisure.Just realised I assumed pies wants coin related books! Maybe he wanted historical research! In which case I'm afraid Amazon might be better for recommendations as I wouldn't have a clue! You assumed correctly I always wanted to get into older coins, but as it's way more involved than milled coins I have left alone for a while. I shall start at Charles as it seems a very interesting part of history Thanks all for your help, lots of daft questions to follow
  21. Anybody know of some good reference books for Charles 1st cheers
