I prefer the term 'die-collectors' rather than variety collectors, as this seems more of a catch-all to me? Most in-depth studies ultimately head back towards the dies, and occasionally their progressive stages, or perhaps a deteriorating punch? I think this is the best part about it, it's what separates numismatics from whimsies!

I hope so! Anybody know defintively? I looked on their website and couldn't find much detail about the products. I'm guessing that they are so popular that its taken for granted that they are OK. There are so many things we take for granted, I guess, and, in all honesty, we take far greater things for granted than coin storage...where do we start, would we have the time?I truly hope that 'fit-for-purpose' Mylar coin flips are something that they claim to be? I'm going to be SO pissed off if, in twenty years time, we find out that the adhesive leaches into the card and dies the rims of the coins red, or something? I've lovingly decontaminated my coins before sealing them...if I don't outdo the tomb-boys I'll be gutted!

If it's about short-term protection, I'd get hold of some acid-free coin envelopes and put your coins into those until you have time to process them properly. Store them in a dry environment, of course!

Generally the most expensive of the hammered variants! Certainly so with Elizabeth I and the hammered copper farthings of J1 and C1. The same can be said of the Scottish coins!

Yes, beware anyone listing on eBay, who haven't checked the post office charges recently! Before Christmas I was able to send an item to the USA, with £1000 cover, for around £11...not anymore! It's now £84 for the same service!

Not sure you can add insurance anymore?Also, maybe there's been a change since I sold that batch of coins before Christmas, because the royal Mail postage calculator won't give me an insured signed-for option to Germany? Not even for £500???

I'd love to know if those fields,in-hand, are as proof-like as the photo makes out? He's a bit clever with the camera! I confess I've never bought a coin from Buck that I'm unhappy with, and his delivery service is very prompt! However, his communication is generally rude, when he finally bothers to respond at all! Notwithstanding the fact, the coins never arrive with that ethereal 'light-toned-lustre' look that his 'golden-hued' photos always portray. I do believe he could make a soil-found 1967 penny look like it's just come out of the purse of the Virgin Mary!

It's developed into an authoritative website, the best reference site for the farthing! I'd like to see a reference work to go with it, Colin! It can't be far off, the legwork is done!G-numbers, perhaps? Edit: I say this with all due respect to CC, but I like CG's ongoing development. I don't think he should sit in the shadows of the unfinished works of the great farthing men...he should blossom and create/finish the work that he obviously knows about, and understands so well!

I'll bet it's a home-made coin weight? That would be plausible if it's made of lead? Does it weigh perhaps a Sov or Half Sov in weight?

I think it's a homemade casting, looking at the ER? Someone has created a mold, forgetting to mirror the letters, I reckon? Is it an ingot perhaps? Is it heavy? What's it made of?

It's made of copper and brass, so has done well for a soil find! I guess the soil in a wood could be a little more peat-like?
