Queen Anne 1711 Sixpence Terrible grading Blimey, that's shocking. Just had a look at his feedback - look at the state of the obverse of the 1917 florin he claimed was FDC. Even his eBay avatar looks shocked!

An absolute bugger to get to full stop, unless you're Paulus, of course! I enjoyed the auction, very friendly and personable! My only warning would be their grading, especially the higher grades and UNC. I didn't get a chance to look at EVERYthing when I was there, so took a punt at a few late UNC items, thinking I'd be safe! Some were EF at best! I also bought a number of coins which were a grade over in their descriptions, plus discovered some pretty major flaws that could of been mentioned (I did bid accordingly on these, however)! What did I learn? You either have to BE there AND look at absolutely everything you intend to bid on, or distant bid a full grade below! Really nice people, worth the trek to be there! Attractive buyes premium of 5% too!

i didnt know that............why so? They are unconventional denominations and the series is not extensive enough to make an interesting collection. You are restricted to two basic obverses and reverse types in three denominations including the 9d patterns, all within a 6 year period. You could expand it with the varieties of the number of acorns and leaf positions as listed by Davis, but even allowing for all the proofs in the different metals, you only have about 3 dozen coins. A shame really because some of them are quite rare. Three dozen? That sounds bliss to me!

my annual check up is not due until december but i like the coin......so is the considered opinion here that its been retooled/enhanced ????. I think the considered opinion is that it's NOT tooled/enhanced! I jumped on the thread late at night on an iPhone, not wishing for any potential issues to go unnoticed on Paulus' behalf, as he may have been making a last minute bidding decision etc...call it spontaneity if you will. As a comparison, I was at a live auction in Clevedon this year, and emergency posted on this forum, 15 minutes before the lot came up, so these things can happen! However, as I said earlier, and I'm in the minority (singularly) on this, I feel awkward about the veins. Enough that I wouldn't buy it out-of-hand myself, and I'm generally quite chancy! Ironically, if it was a poor picture I'd probably give it a go, simply because I would be in the playing field of the bold! Hey ho!

At first glance they appeared deeper than I would've expected, and a little 'awkward'! They still 'feel' awkward for me, however, the consensus is most definitely that the coin's a goer! Are you going for it Paulus?

Mine was a pretty good copy, about the right thickness and also had a rose privy mark, just can't remember if it was muled or not? Exact match, the groat's a duffer too! All gone Dah, dah!

On the excellent, but dreaded iPhone, so could look different on a larger screen, but those veins don't look right to me! Are they a little too deep, comparative to the rest of the detail? Also, they look a tad too linear and out of alignment with the leaf IMO...check them against another example, I can't right now! Could be wrong, but it doesn't look straight to me, if you'll pardon the pun!
