  1. A great lady indeed, but I think Mr. Blair was slightly misguided in calling her "one of the most remarkable and colourful personalities" in the history of British politics. Eulogies are expected to have a little embellishment, but this was laid on with a trowel. Same goes for Robin Cook. No mention of when he was at the airport with his wife (due to go on holiday), and he announced he was leaving her for his secretary.
  2. I just read in the paper she didn't want to be resuscitated. Checked the BBC and it's true: she's dead.
  3. How intriguing! I'd never realised that, not that I'd paid much attention to it to begin with
  4. I'd rather not have buildings etc represented. I like the emblematic reverses that we have now (bar the bridge £1 series). Revamping the portcullis, thistle etc would be a better idea than totally new ones.
  5. There was a robbery reported on these boards and others that took place around January time (in Surrey I think). Loads of valuable coins were stolen - early milled crowns and five guineas to name but two. Were any ever recovered? Was the thief caught?
  6. I think - or rather, hope - that it's privately issued.
  7. If the colouring - or enamelling - is of especially good quality, you could hope to get a fairly good price for it. Otherwise, if it's slightly gauche, it won't be worth much at all apart from sentimental value. This site provides more information.
  8. Congratulations to you.
  9. I got my first a few months ago - another £5 coin in change!
  10. We don't like to boast
  11. It's called the Sheldon Grading System, with a grade ranging from a 1 to 70. They are prefixed by letters, denoting the rough grade - eg. AU50 for about uncirculated. However, the US AU is different to the UK AU.
  12. Double-headed eagle *drools*.
  13. I've been looking on ebay specifically for slabbed coins, something low value like a Roosie, just to see and hold a slab.
  14. Lovely. I fixed the link in this post.
  15. I'd say clipping reduces value. Personally, I'd grade it and place it with a note (eg. VF with minor/major clipping).
  16. Congratulations, Sylvester. I've been on holiday, hence not replying quicker.
  17. Could it be one of the model coins, like the stuff made by Lauer maybe?
  18. I think you mean the one above (but in silver, obviously). These were minted in bronze, silver and gold, and in two sizes. It's not a coin, but an official medal to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. To value yours, we would need pictures/scans to assess the grade. Unless it's just the info that you want, which is above.
  19. Will this be standard now on for all Rotographic titles?
  20. Coincraft makes no distinction between the two on value; both are valued as follows: VG - £10 F - £30 VF - £80 EF - £450. Bear in mind this is approaching six years old.
  21. This medal has been holed...three times! Maybe it was sewn onto a garment, but whatever it was for it's a shame.
  22. Oli i've been adding varities into some serieses. This book is technically supposed to be a definative general work. Leave them blank for now JMD and we'll work out those later. I could understand if they were common varieties, but seeing that JMD can't find them anywhere in Spink or on the Internet, I would think they're not.
