  1. Sounds good Peter but a couldny leave bonnie Scotland. My postie signs for my stuff too but he nothing has ever gone astray yet, touch wood.
  2. Well I'll put my hands up at being an atheist but I do respect others rights to believe in whatever they want, just as long as its not forced onto anyone else, especially the weak and vulnerable. I believe the best road regarding belief or non belief is that whichever path you choose, it should be your own choice and hopefully one you have researched and "learned", as opposed to one that you have been "taught" and never questioned. In a bit of a contrast to how most atheists are perceived, I do believe you should treat others as you would like to be treated yourself and although I believe I only have one life and when I'm dead that's it, I am not scared of dying. I don't go out partying all the time or robbing or killing other people for my pleasure with the view that I only have one life so I have to "live it to the full". I would say I am a family man first and foremost, I would stop to help anyone including my neighbors that may need it and believe you shouldn't just take or milk the system, you should work, have goals and strive for what you want and to better yourself. I still have a conscience and would say I am mindful of other peoples feelings. Epicurus (341–270 B.C.) the Greek philosopher probably best summed up my own thoughts on life centuries ago. The physical world, he held, was all there was and was composed of differently shaped atoms whose various combinations formed all matter; there were no divine laws or divine rewards or punishments for human actions, and hence no moral codes that human beings were obliged to obey. The only rational goal was to live life as pleasurably as possible. And yet, Epicurus wrote: “When we say that pleasure is the end and aim, we do not mean the pleasures of the prodigal or the pleasures of sensuality, as we are understood to do by some through ignorance, prejudice or willful misrepresentation. By pleasure we mean the absence of pain in the body and of trouble in the soul. It is not an unbroken succession of drinking bouts and of revelry, not sexual lust, not the enjoyment of the delicacies of a luxurious table, which produce a pleasant life… We cannot live pleasantly without living wisely, honorably, and justly, nor live wisely, honorably, and justly without living pleasantly.”
  3. Thanks Debbie. I don't know how to do a current gold value for a sovereign as the graphs are imported. I can only show a graph for an ounce or per gram. I thought per gram would be easier as you only have to times the price by 8 to get the current gold value for a sovereign or by 4 for a half sovereign. To answer your question, gold or pure gold does not tone, it is an inert metal. However most gold coins are struck in 22ct gold so do contain some copper. If mixed well the copper is very minute so the coin still wont tone, but I have seen a couple of gold coins that have toned and my guess is the metal hasn't mixed well so the copper is toning on parts of the coin. Pure gold coins like Chinese Panda coins and Canadian Maple leafs, should not tone. That's a good idea Debbie. I may add a FAQ page and have some questions and answers posted. Cheers, Hus
  4. Okay thanks for the suggestions so far. I have removed the "allow cookies pop up" for now, we'll just see how the use of this law pans out. So instead I have added a "Website Privacy & Cookies" link to the bottom of each page. Any other suggestions? For example any other post or pages I should add about sovereigns?
  5. Minted! I scored 6 out of 7 as well. I got the first question wrong.
  6. no........you have to accept the cookie pop up for every page..........darned annoying Are you sure? When you first visit the site you should get a message in the bottom right hand corner saying this site uses cookies etc.. If you click on "I am happy to accept this" the little symbol in the corner of your screen should change from orange to green and it wont keep asking you on every page. Please try it and tell me if it works. I am still playing around with it and may remove this all together, however if the EU has its way this kind of request will become the norm on most sites that want to fall within the law as almost every sites use cookies. Including this one. See the Google ads on the right hand side of the front page, Google places cookies on every visitor so that it can best target ads to suit each individual. Cookies aren't a bad thing per say, they aren't trying to steal your details or bank account number etc. They are mainly used to allow site owners to see what percentage of visitors are from the UK, US, Germany etc or analytical stuff or used to target ads. You could have a site ie a coin dealers site that might get away with not using cookies but most sites that are free to use include the likes of Google ads etc which although dont generate huge incomes do generate some and help to off set the cost of hosting and maintaining a website. If you didn't have cookies or ads, the likely hood is the site might cost the users money, not exist or cost the site producer money to run.
  7. Thanks. The Cookie Pop up thing is just something I'm trialing to conform with the new EU laws!!! I think if you accept it then it wont keep showing on each page.
  8. Very true! It takes a while to sift through many over graded and damaged coins to actually find 1 or 2 decent ones.
  9. Thanks to everyone that has allowed me to use a picture on my site and Chris I have used a picture of the 120 Sov you allowed me to use on CoinsGB, if you don't want me to use it on this site please let me know and I'll remove it. I still have a bit to do but if anyone fancies taking a look and critiquing the site for me I would be grateful. I am looking for opinions good and bad, spelling mistakes etc and any suggestions eg, new content. http://gold-sovereign.net/ Thanks Hus
  10. on the whole so do I but I don't want to get hit with a fine. about cookie law.."The UK Regulations carry a maximum fine of £500,000 for serious breaches. It is anticipated that this power will only be used in limited circumstances. Before this the fine was £5,000 and companies may have been willing to run the risk but with these increased powers the result of enforcement action is potentially more severe." http://www.aboutcookies.org/Default.aspx?page=3
  11. Love to see them police that, 3 million UK websites, that will keep em busy Hopefully if we all ignore it. It will go away Seriously though can the EU not find better things to spend their time on!
  12. For any members that run their own websites have you heard about this new law!!
  13. As this is a new laptop then the drivers should be suitable and do not need to be messed with. Sorry I should have clarified, it's new to me but in fact its second hand. So I guess my first port of call is to try and install the drivers. Thanks guys I'm on it now and I'll let you know how it goes.
  14. My screen resolutions available are: 1366 x 768 1360 x 768 1280 x 768 1280 x 720 1024 x 768 800 x 600 I think I've tried them all including 800 x 600, I lost a lot of the sides (went black) but the coins looked even more elongated! I just bought a Dell Inspiron N5110 it has a very wide screens. My old trusty Dell latitude d620 used to work great. This is the spec of my new laptop: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6121&review=dell+inspiron+15r+n5110 I am trying to instal all new drivers to see if that helps.
  15. I just purchased a new widescreen laptop which I'm really pleased with but when I look at coin pictures the coins apear to be oval, more egg shaped! I tried changing the resolution but that didn't help. How am I supposed to crop and tweak images now, quite annoying. Any suggestions?
  16. Thanks Clive, Mailbox checked and images received.
  17. Thanks guys very much appreciated. Azda- wow 500 websites nicking pictures from Tax Free Gold website. I'm VERY surprised to see CGS-UK.biz on that list I personally want to do everything above board. I have had quite a few emails from new collectors and gold investors asking me about Sovereigns, so I thought I would set up a simple site along those lines, I may add more info, varieties etc in the future and it is by no means finished. Its also the first time I have used Wordpress so I am still playing around with it. I'll publish the site details once I've done more work on it. Many thanks once again. Hus
  18. I have a few pictures of Elizabeth II sovereigns that you can use if they are any use to you? A reduced in size sample is attached. That would be great Nick thanks. Please email the pictures and any description ie name, your coin site, you would like me to put under them. If you want to rename anonymous that is fine to, whatever suits you. Regards, Hus
  19. Please. For a website I am working on. The pictures must belong to you and you must own the rights to allow me to use them. I am looking for good quality images of Sovereigns, half Sovereigns which I can crop and apply to a different background (to match my site), so size isn't too important. I would be happy to mention you name, ie "Courtesy of John Smith" etc below it and the url of your website if it is coin related. ie ....Picture... Courtesy of John Smith www.SmithCoins.com I am also interested in swapping links with other quality coin related websites. Could you please send emails containing images or contact me on sulo(at)coinsgb.com if interested. Thank you.
  20. it was titled "india bengal presidency pattern pie AH 1228 KM Pn25 high grade" I had a quick look in Krause to verify the claim but couldn't see it and was tired so I went to bed. While at work today the auction was due to finish during my afternoon break. I thought I could use a pattern for sale on my website, liked the look of it but didn't know what it was worth. When I went to bid there was less then a minute left it was at £32 I put a bid of £48 in and I was the top bidder at £46 with a few seconds to go. I left it at that but I went to check if I had won it later, the winning bid was £856.76! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200719380617?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp4712.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D200719380617%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1 I'm sure this has happened to us all at some point, I wonder if the seller was pleased with the result. I still don't know a lot about the coin but perhaps it has found its market value.
  21. I'm sorry to say my opinion based on the images would be a fake. Here is a genuine one graded MS66 by PCGS: http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/CoinDetail.aspx?s=9172&redir=t There are a couple of differences. As you say the breast feathers just don't look right, they look too flat and almost engraved. The details are almost too good. The feet on liberty are too well defined. These points wouldn't rule it out, however the biggest give-aways for me are The ray that points too the olive branch isn't close enough on yours. On the picture of a genuine one is almost touching. Also there are too many windows/the windows are too high on the U.S. Capitol building on yours.
  22. Again not an expert by any shot on these as I haven't studied them nor have I owned one but looking at your pictures the thing that makes it appear genuine to me is the doubling of the 5. The 8 is doubled and the doubling of the 5 ties in well with it. Would a forger alter the date and include the doubling, I would imagine that would be hard to do and it would have to have been done by someone with plenty of insight. I also can't see any obvious signs of alteration from the picture but it does have toning around the date which makes it harder to tell (not that you should clean the coin by any means).
  23. Thanks Gollum, I've now done so. I've deleted everything and changed my passwords. I'll ask all members to change their passwords when its up and running again. I am working on a fresh instal now.

  24. Congrats to her Tom. I'm sure you and your wife are very proud. I hope one day Sophia decides to go to Uni and sticks in at school. If I had applied for any of these big name Uni's my application would have been filled in the bin, probably after giving everyone that read it a good laugh first. I kind of wished that I had tried harder at school, but having said that I don't know if achieving higher grades would have helped me much in my previous and current career choices. The only thing I regret is not having and end game focus at school, I take my hat of to all those people that know what occupation or job they would like to do and study and achieve the grades required to go for it. I never really knew what I wanted to do at school. My dream job would have been sea salvage/ wreck diver or underwater archaeology but it was probably always going to be pie in the sky stuff.
