  1. do you do terms....ive a pound a week in mind.....
  2. ive got 2 of em...........total cost 40p, i wont be putting em back into circulation, if a numptie wants to buy one however
  3. new york , new york my web page frooze and i hit send again....... new york , new york my web page frooze and i hit send again.......
  4. i had lots of 20p pices with these errors, i kept them a while, looked at them through a magnifier, enjoyed studying them. eventually i spent them on a couple of pints of speckled hen......there will be somewhere in leeds that sells speckled hen i was surprised at how many coins in circulation that have soo many manufacturing errors, my experience is that the 20p and 5p seem to suffer more than most. perhaps this statement is inaccurate however as the 50p coin seems to have almost disappeared from circulation ( around these parts), with millions of rare examples being offered on ebay . the 10ps ive looked at, has seen fewer errors, with just a couple of examples found.

  6. ive spent more than a months income, ive also taken a 10p out of change......more relevant for me, and the point i made in such an apparantly unfriendly way earlier, is this......show me the £1000 coin, i could learn soo much from a coin i may never have in my possesion, tell me what it was that made you pull that 10p.....far more interesting.
  7. my reply wasnt in any way unfriendly, just my observation that this question has been asked sooo many times before...like slabs. i do wonder if people do actually spend the same amount every month or the same percentage every month. my buying has changed over the years, i used to buy regularly, mostly sixpences, now i collect florins d/florins and crowns just buying the best piece i can when ive saved funds....at the end of the day though.....does it really matter? friendly
  8. so.....back to the original question, totally irrelevant..........theres a wide spread of incomes on here and a wide range of those who wish to spend their cash or virtual cash on coins or loose women. this question is as relevant as to how much money we spend on petrol each month. but anyhow...........5% on coins, 5% on petrol and 90% on loose women crap isnt it?????.....how about a proper question on coins?
  9. i think our collecting interest are similar.... i would say that davies is better for 1816 onwards, i bought groom in december 2010 for something to read over that xmas and value it as one of my best referece books for the period it covers. having said that, i own esc and refer to it often. i would not want to have to give any of them up. Spink i upgrade when my book becomes tatty, so ive gone from 2006 to 2012, i think spink is a great reference book, but too much emphasis is placed on the prices contained within. Not much of answer, i think the replies here are all along the same lines, build up a small library over time if i were doing that now it would be 1/ davies 2/ groom 3/ spink 4/ esc above all that there is the amazing wealth of information contained on this forum.....now that really should be looked at.
  10. ........me neither ...... what a beaut that coin fair is eh?
  11. sheeeeeeeeeeeettttt, goulloids........i told you to be diplomatic
  12. never a truer word said in jest
  13. modern photography eh i took some pics of my 1924 tanner for another thread here, the pic of the reverse looked stunning, the obverse less so, i didnt post the pics becsause of the way the obverse photographed. i dont think the difference between the 2 pics was as different as the coin in this thread, true to say in the hand my coin is okay. but my tanner is gef. Its true to say that the pics are 4 times life size.......but thats true for both the reverse and the obverse pics. Peckris is right in my opinion the reverse is a good grade higher than the obverse, is this coin, despite the obverse, and what the camera may have done to it.....BU...?????
  14. yes youre right..........a tough one to grade, a shame about the obverse.......i do like the reverse though
  15. As Peckris points out coins in this series are often very weakly struck, to me however, going by the pic alone, the obverse looks worn, true to say maybe weakly struck and worn. As dave suggests, i dont think its a bu example.
  16. well at the end of the day, youve flogged something you werent using, got some cash and can look forward to youre wife spending it, its whats called a lose/lose situation
  17. depends really......in terms of coins this may be good, but if youre still trying to flog youre missus on ebay, you may need to rethink the scale....accuracy....be diplomatic, she has feelings
  18. the reverse looks really good, if i bought the coin though on the strength of that 1 pic, i would be sending it back bu....no way.....gvf/ef for me
  19. did coin monthly go broke??? if they did....then the copyright could be held with the receiver that handled the case.
  20. theres way too much detail in that coin to interest a penny collector
  21. whhooooo..................PARTY happy birthday..........twice. ski
  22. the justification for paying a little more than a guide, at times anyhow. we all love a bargain
  23. spinks is only a guide in terms of price , eye appeal is as important as grade to a buyer.....if Paul is happy with the coin at the price he payed.......then thats a good buy for Paul and looking at the pics, a nice addition to a collection. we may all pay a little over the guide price for a piece for different reasons, to finish a run, to upgrade or simply because of eye appeal. the bottom line for me is.......is Paul a collector or investor/. if collector....hes got himself a damn near unc tanner with a great look to it.
  24. very interesting, had you inspected the coin closely before photographing and not seen it? or was it a case that you hadnt given the coin much attention at all. im curious to know if it was the photo that highlighted it to you. ski.
  25. if you like it then its special to you.....i like it, i havent got a crown of that year, i would love to have that coin in my collection. a very nice ef i think.
