  1. I think that mite run into 4 figures
  2. Now here's a Gothic Crown
  3. It does look highly polished, and if you didn't realise, you can email the seller asking your question about a return if it has in fact been polished. I've seen a better one, near museum piece, but at 3k its a bit steep for me, maybe i'll ask the Frau to open her purse
  4. There was no Sovereign Hussulo, it was a halfcrown, perhaps polished with brasso, nevertheless, it was silver, honest
  5. I emailed the seller last night about it, and he replied and said "I have considered what you say and have to admit the coin does not grade as UNC. I have withdrawn it, changed the listing and re-listed it as VF. Thanks for your kind comments I can only say in my defence that I took my eye of the ball". Well i suppose thats fair enough, at least he done the decent thing and dropped the grade.
  6. Ok, i hold my hand up, it was me...........The wife will kill me now
  7. Its a polished GF Personally i would have said VF+ so thats 3 grades already for just this coin, it's not easy this grading mularky is it
  8. Thank you again Peckris for clearing up that other mystery, learning every day
  9. Here is a case of a seller stating his coin is UNC when in my opinion it blatantly isn't, for me the head is worn and there's a huge rim nick. See what you and others think. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1874-Half-Crown-Uncirculated-grade_W0QQitemZ270541912974QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL?hash=item3efd8dfb8e If you look at his description he states UNC then in the article description he says Judge and Bid, its all about enticement
  10. Alas, I have moved them on. Now if you think shifting a 1787 Shilling in EF is a challenge, try getting rid of half a dozen Lee Enfields... Psst, Mate, wanna buy some rifles...... I bet that was interesting and very difficult, unless you're in London or Manchester, then i'd say you sold them rather easily
  11. It sounds like thats exactly what he's done, i assume he really knew it was'nt in the particular grade he stated and used wording and the pics to "judge for yourself" but dropped in the grade to entice, there is a lot of that on ebay, so if you don't want to get your fingers burnt take a little time to study pics and grading, that way it will then only be you to blame for future mistakes, but don't make them so costly next time. Gold has always bullion value anyway, so you won't lose a huge amount on what you bought.
  12. If war breaks out we're all coming to 400s for a coffee and a rifle
  13. If i were you i'd ask the seller for your money back
  14. Having seen some of your aquisitions of late that would probably be the cheaper option. (Hmm, that's an interesting discussion topic; which is more enjoyable? Coins or....) She got a bit grumpy today when i told her i got an 1854 sixpence lol, i'm waiting on 3 packets, i hope they come all at the same time so i can just have the 1 bollocking and get it over and done with
  15. Yes my Frau has verbally slapped me for the incomings of packets at a frequent rate, i'm gonna have to hide things now, i feel like am having an affair lol
  16. Thanks for clearing that up Peckris, i was kinda assuming it was something to do with mintage etc. Just one other question, what is this "choice" quote i see on coins, a lot through ebay.
  17. Hi Mike, VF relates to the grade Very Fine, also if you are looking to sell the coins etc there is a section in the forum called Items for sale, maybe you could put the ones you wanted to sell in there and perhaps try and make some better quality pictures (if possible) of the items you wanted to sell. I would be interested to see a better picture of the Geo III halfcrown bullhead as i do like these coins. Hope that helps.
  18. I was checking out some coins and just wondered why 1854 coins seem to be worth a whole lot more than some other dates IE 1854 Shillings and sixpences. I don't know why this is or why it seems to be a key date, can someone please enlighten me?
  19. What's most annoying is that a collector never finds these things in their backyard lol
  20. What say you now Peckris?
  21. Its the Irish Tricolor lol.............i'm still hoping my first assumption is correct :-)
  22. Peter, if money was no object, i'd be poor collecting all those nice UNC coins
  23. I hope its the weight, it will make me feel better for the panic i set in Also Mary, the spink number refers to the spink book of coins, each coin has a number logged to it, that number would be the number for the coin in the book
  24. Hi there, it looks like you have the luck of the Irish, what you have there is a Guinea spink number 3726, it looks a good very fine grade to me and worth around 2500 pounds. I hope my assumption is correct, am sure one of the older collectors of the forum will give a positive ID, but it looks very much like it
  25. If anyone is selling a coin, could they maybe list them here first before selling elswhere, maybe someone on the forum would like to buy before anyone else, just a thought
