  1. That nice 2mm has been taken down due to "an error in listing"
  2. Thanks Colin, I don't think it's PMD
  3. The white gunk is actually shiny bronze
  4. Sorry to hijack the the thread, but Colin if you are here, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the 1865 I posted here
  5. If we are showing really ugly pennies, thoughts on this one. A 1919 KN with severe dandruff, flakes have fallen off both sides, some patches showing lustre. Some have suggested fire damage, but I'm more inclined to think severe lamination problems Whatever the history, it's a shame - would have been a decent grade for a 1919 KN otherwise
  6. I'm still looking for filled 5 1915 penny, but I have 1915 with this cud on the 9 with a die crack
  7. I read somewhere that London Transport are the main users of £2 coins, to give change in their ticket machines
  8. A bad fake 1933 penny, a snip @ £700
  9. Definitely normal obv 2, no space after GRA: There are reports of 1912s with a hollow neck, but I don't think these have either been confirmed or have the attributes of Gouby X
  10. My example has no dots, do I have the rare one? Seriously any idea of the incidence? 1897 high tides are very scarce to begin with, so worth everyone here who has one to check. The OH penny has only 1 obverse type, so probably most of us haven't given any of the series more than a cursory look.
  11. Could be Rob. A curio for now labelled as F.292a slowly trying to upgrade the washers I saved from circulation, only 4 short of a basic date set 1860-1970 in clear date, delighted to get this one from French Ebay a while back for €20. Freeman has this as R13, rarer than both the 1869 or 1871 pennies, shows how inflated penny prices are. So 2016 is going to be the year of the halfpenny for me
  12. probably the only chance you will ever get for owning a 1954 penny cardboard coins
  13. Ok - first thread. Any thoughts on this odd 3 (bottom picture) in an 1863. Crap condition so perhaps just wear giving an odd appearance
  14. A thread for halfpennies, which seem to be the Cinderellas of the bronze series, perhaps because they generally have suffered far more wear than the popular pennies and farthings
  15. Yes, I think Gary is winding us up
  16. looks like it! colon dots after IMP to tooth - I thought the British Museum coin was regarded as unique??? Mine is a classic F188 with clogged 2 and off-centre reverse strike on a streaky flan, as per Freeman's description
  17. Poor image, scanning a lustred coin through a coin flip is not ideal IOM coins are not too uncommon here in the North West, some interesting designs, and valid inclusions as British decimal issues. Pity they produce so much NCLT crap Being next to Manchester Airport, I get the occasional coin from Gibraltar, and I've had a Falklands 2p, but I've never seen anything from the Channel Islands or St Helena yet!
  18. Found a nice shiny 2015 Manx 2p today
  19. Just a thought, now we have a Decimal topic. D-day for decimalisation was 45 years ago today. - 15 February 1971 I remember paying my fare in Lsd on the bus to work and getting shiny new decimal pence in my change.
  20. He mentions several in his original Bronze Penny book, but I think scanning electron microscopy of known specimens had them all as post mint damage. I remember finding a veil head penny with milled edge as a kid, probably about 1960, everyone told me it was a fake, so it was probably spent ? Been looking for another ever since
  21. Think I need to buy a lottery ticket this weekend! That 1879 with a "space shuttle" is one I've not seen before
  22. Not my area but thoughts on this one? very interesting if genuine 2009 10p mule
  23. Dunno, but I interpret it as a fern frond with a grenade at its base - (your pictures reorientated) Can't find anything that matches MODITA though Suggest you try posting pictures here, I've found them very helpful on early European stuff David
