  4. I'm back too, great county!
  5. Just off to Norfolk for a week's holiday. Any recommendations for local dealers and museums worth a coiny visit? David

  8. Looks like a George V penny, no value in that condition
  9. "Care in the community" has a lot to answer for. Im new here so thanks for introducing me to this bloke got to love this one, ebay No 370831082109. Mint lustre specially created with a piece of Scotchbrite!!! whilst being held with a pair of pliers! But folk are buying this rubbish for silly prices! see this 1870BB 5Fr piece £205 is a reasonable price for EF+ but this coin struggles to make Fine (€22 in TB25) the ribbon is just visible on the neck The minimum criteria to make VF (TTB45) a €30 coin, requires the point of the moustache to be clearly visible But then I'm just using the grading standards from Le Franc Was this a BIN as I can't see any bids on it. I wonder if the 8 page views is accurate. BIN with positive feedback

  11. I've pulled three off Ebay (2 are now with fellow forum members) Still not convinced there is only one die involved. So thought it worth a closer look Does the non-Gouby hollow neck exist? ............................................................................ and what of the alleged hollow neck 1912??
  12. Apologies for my bid Scott. 99p would have been sweeter
  13. lol must have been in cahoots with someone I reckon, doubt that this was a genuine sale! What are you doing watching such c**p anyways?! I believe it was a Gouby X whoever bought it well spotted! Nice bargain too!! I had a close look at that one and decided that it wasn't a Gouby X Definitely Gouby X, I was the underbidder
  14. Rigato - (reeded edge) catalogues at €300 in BB (VF), €1,700 in SPL(EF) in GIGANTE 2013 Liscio - (plain edge) catalogues at €800 in BB (VF), €1,600 in SPL(EF) in GIGANTE 2013 combined mintage 599,000
  15. I have no knowledge of Jersey coinage, but the coin pictured is definitely the result of a cracked die. It is pretty common for die cracks to roughly follow the baseline of the legend as this one does through "ELFT". JerseyCoins is a mine of information - die varieties etc David
  16. If memory serves David it sold for a little less than £3k, give or take £2990 less wasn't it?
  17. Bought mine off John (argentumandcoins) a bit since
  18. Correction Canada & Straits have issues for 1872 with the H (heaton) mm
  19. My copy has 5p on the cover, which came as part of a larger parcel of books. It's a super little reference volume, even if only 40 pages of less than A5 size. My copy came today and is also priced at 5p Useful info on the dies and, more importantly, the die pairings known - possible a cheapish project to track some of them down Interesting to note these bronze coins were not minted by the Royal Mint, but contracted out :- 1864 Henry Jay & Co 1868 & 1874 Partridge & Co Never heard of these two before . The Royal mint used Watt & Co and Heatons for 1860-3 UK bronze (also without mintmark), Watt & Co also used for Hong Kong bronze cents It would appear no mintmarks appear before 1874 on any UK or Colonial Bronze coinage - I wonder if any other stuff was farmed out in these years prior to the major refurbishment of the RM in 1882?
  20. Can't be done - decent stuff sells, but the crap gets continually recycled via "free listing" weekends Rob, Peter - you both miss my point, I'm not complaining about the relisting BUT recycled listings make any attempt at statistics impossible. Court's suevey is valid because his samples were on the way to the melting pot - ie no coin was counted twice
  21. Nice example! well spotted
