  1. I used to buy RM coms and year sets regularly until 2000, since when I've bought nothing. It's all gone the way of the stamps 20 years before.
  2. Yes, I thought it was $100 well spent. Here's the Observe, I don't have an after picture of the rverse and my collection is still in the bank from returning from my holiday yeserday.
  3. His name is Allen Stockton, and he lives in Monticello, KY...near the Eastern Mountains of KY. He advertises in the ANA Magazine. He does very good work, but you would not want to send a coin to him in better than VF condition, as the repair and resurfacing does take its toll. Another thing, it takes 6 months to a year to get your coin back. The cost is reasonable however. Yes, he fixed my holed 1905 shilling, it did take a while though.
  4. I just looked thru 10 1904 Pennies, and didn't find any with the 4 over the tooth! I would assume it is the most difficult to find. Yes Bob, they're unbelievably difficult to find and worth $15,995! Or the narrow date 1877 on your website, of course WOW!!!!!!! I have got to start paying more attention. It looks like David is going to have a additional 1904 for his book's next printing! Does anyone you know actually have one of these? They are out there, I had a ropy one for a while until I sold it on ebay after getting a much better example. It didn't cause much interest.
  5. As a variety collector the more the merrier, valuing varieties is a real bitch. Having them listed with values would make life so much easier ,especially when it comes to insurance. And as insurance companies tend to use Spinks that's were they need to be.
  6. Sitting in Hong Kong Airport now waiting for my next flight, yawn. Still 6 or 7 hours away from a eal bed.
  7. Me I'm a completest and proud of it. I started collecting from change in the mid sixties then put the collection away for 25 years. When I picked it up again I got rid of all the Victorian bronze, silver in your change was very rare by then. I've now set the bottom limit at 1900 and top limit at 1967 (1970 + 25p are included). To broarden my collection I have added the Maundy series and have moved into varieties to keep it alive. UNC is my aim, probably 75% there with the usual exceptions like the 1903, 1909, 1922 pennies etc.
  8. Well this is the first time I've been on a plane with WiFi. Even managed to snip a lovely1902 crown on ebay. Sent from my kindle 39,000 feet somewhere over southern russia.
  9. Certain members have rightfully voiced concerns about broardcasting going on holiday on an open forum, perhaps I didn't think it through before posting. Be rest assured the collection and other valuable are all in the bank. It's very handy having a brother who's a bank manager.
  10. I see this one is back again http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Great-Britain-Wreath-Crown-1934-/251403837560?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3a88d62078
  11. Well to start things off I'm sitting in my front room surounded by packed cases. Off to heathrow tomorrow for 3 weeks in the sun.
  12. I'm always amazed at the number of people out there who will spend a decent amount of money on a coin, who so obviously know nothing at all about the series they are buying! And this is about as easy a spot as you will ever see too!Maybe people are not that dumb and most are bought by the seller
  13. Yes, I bought it as a 0.925 silver but it turned out to be 0.500 which according to Rayner is the rarer of the two so should have gone for more, which it did.
  14. I'm still kicking myself for not going after that set in the 18th Sept DWN auction. I'd spent 2k on a crown the day before which ended up going back and I had expected the set to go through the roof. Was I suprised when it went for £4200 hammer
  15. £5000 hammer I got the 1907 florin for below estimate. No I didn't I paid top estimate, still happy. My lot sold for below estimate but still a 700% profit so can't complain.

  18. £5000 hammer
  19. If there ever was a coin that wanted cracking out and dipping that's the coin.
  20. I'm actually from over the border in the posh part of Essex. Just come to Haverhill to see if I could find the hub caps off me motor. Been here 15 years now and still haven't found them
  21. So what about this new 'view before you buy'
  22. The books for my sons 1st year Engineering degree come to about £600. Luckily you can get an ebook of the important bits for only £150, and that's for only 3 downloads.
  23. I've never seen cases for any of the Wreath Crowns or the VIP issues come to that. I guess the wreaths were issued by the banks so were just doled out from mint bags. The proofs and VIPs you would expect to be in some sort of presentation case though.
  24. Whist on the For me, I really like the leather box and I guess I would be prepared to pay £20 or £30 to buy one if I have a set in cardboard box. (Having said that, I do worry about the ribbons used to lift out the coins and the way they can tone the coins). I think sets sell for pretty much the same money regardless the type of box. In fact, I think one might even get more money by separating a set and selling the coins individually. I think my set is in the leather case, well they were before I put them into my cabinet. I'll have to go up into the loft and look it out, I have a bag with all the cases in somewhere. If mine were in the cardboard case I'd jump at an upgrade for £20-30. I think £50 would be closer. Fine - anywhere from £20 to £50 then. Considering the sets sell for well over £500 these days, I'm not really tempted to upgrade my card case! I want a case for the 1893 short set. Anybody got one spare? Whilst on the subject I'm short of the 1911 case. I don't know if there were different set but I've only got the silver.
