  1. Yes unlikely he bought it as a 2+G I suppose, is he just pulling a saxby? I'd give him the benefit of the doubt except that it's still listed as obv. 2 and he says he has higher res images available on request so I don't understand why he didn't use those in the first place! I messaged him also and am still waiting for a response...
  2. Sorry but for my eyes and fingers they are, pretty coins though That's much as it is with me..... Concentrating primarily on mostly pennies and half pennies and limiting it with few exceptions to circulation strikes only.... I've recently expanded my farthing album to accomodate the varieties noted on Colin Goodes website (well deserved hat's off to you Colin)... I still have difficulty seeing farthings due to size and I probably will never achieve the level of completion that I have attained with the other two denominations... Especially, being on a fixed income, I have to budget my purchases and/or make some dramatic finds.. But the thrill is in the hunt itself....
  3. The 1870 "Dot" under the Y of PENNY, sold to a advanced collector in the UK for nearly $1,000. Good to know for reference purposes..... mine isn't as nice but still worth something ......
  4. Pennies, half-pennies, farthings.... Copper & bronze....
  5. Indeed they are.... One and the same.....
  6. Is that "TonyPlayMoney" ? That's the one!I didn't know that he finally published it... I'll.have get a copy.for reference..Rogers was the reference to use but included much more than these model pennies... Just as Freeman supplanted Peck with the bronze issues, and Gouby expanded upon Freeman (at least with the pennies), I would expect Tony's book to supplant Rogers with the models... Without seeing it, I would still recommend it, and as I said before, will get a copy for myself.... After I sold my Model collection of 100 or so different varieties, Tonymade an offer on the rare varieties that I had kept... The penney error, a silver penny, and a silver half-penny ex-Norweb.. I wish him luck with the book Tony's book is very thorough and comprehensive indeed. He spent a great deal of time producing it, especially the hand drawings of the micro-varieties. Being hyper-critical, the scans would be better as photographs and he could have done with a grammar checker! Very much a labour of love though. I may possibly have your silver penny now? I recently bought an example, together with the two unique pennies (brass and nickel-plated) that Tony had. I'm not home now, but when I do & have the chance, I'll see if I can find the images of those coins.... SILLY ME.... THE COINS ARE IMAGED NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THIS THREAD.....

  9. I'm not at home at the moment to check the exact title and spelling ..but the reference book is "Rodger's (spelling?) Toy Money" (not sure if this is the title on the cover, but this is the book....
  10. I don't understand how you anyone can think that women are smarter than men.... Why they would want equality when they are already superior is beyond me.... Then again, I'm just one of the inferior males...
  11. Although I don't collect proofs or patterns, I would not refuse to have any of the above varieties in my collection.... I couldn't afford any of them but I wouldn't refuse any of them if offered... LOL
  12. Subtle????? Nice sense of irony....
  13. I'm sure that there are carboot sellers that use ebay as a supply source... the vicious circle of life...
  14. Sounds like me...... about 25 or so firefox windows open with multiple tabs in each... sometimes ie too and/or chrome to access other accounts at the same time.... PS: You have a digital version of Bramah?.. I have the book but would like to find digital (pdf ?) copies of that and others... Where did you get it?
  15. I know.... time flies.... I'll be a member 9 years this August...
  16. LOL !!!!! I TOTALLY misread it.... I thought they were investigating a theft that took place at the time of the first World War.... I thought this was some sort of scam at first... LMAO!!!!
  17. Much rarer... I believe 2 known.. Again, I'm on my cell phone and don't have ready access to the information , so correct me if I'm wrong.. but I believe a CGS certified example sold at a London Coins auction for upwards of 20k within the past few years or so...
  18. If you examine the images you will note that the normal 3 has a straight downward stroke to the central diagonal line whereas the open 3 has a slight upward curve to it.. Additionally the normal 3 has a small downstroke at the top left end of the upper line of the 3 whereas the open 3 had a spikelike downstroke slightly to the right of the left end of the upper line of the 3 instead. One must be very cautious when examining worn specimens as the upper end of the tail of the bottom stroke of the 3 is sometimes well worn and often barely visible. In these instances the diagonal of the 3 appears to point to a space as in the open 3 but in reality it is actually pointing to the well worn end of the 3. All examples like this should be examined under high magnification.....
  19. ,From Michael Gouby's book Normal 3, Open 3, Narrow 3 David Thank you David
  20. They're in his book, which I have here, but not on his site (as far as I can see). The book's well worth buying though, I agree! You're correct... I thought he had an example imaged... I'll try to post a closeup over the weekend if no one else posts one first....
  21. I'm on my cell phone , so it's difficult for me to link...but maybe someone can link to the images on Michael Goubys site.... He wrote the book... I highly recommend it as it goes far past freeman which is also a must have.. else I'll do it over the weekend
