  1. I remember having a George V halfpenny that was so badly laminated, half of the coin opened like a book! These things do occur and I wouldn't class them as 'minting errors', more metalic flaws.
  2. Asecond look and I'm a bit thrown by the righthand fleur. It's trifoliate while the left is bifoliate. I haven't seen that before!
  3. I'm in OK! What's the problem?
  4. Great stuff, Chris. Especially waking up Smiths. Keep them coming!
  5. WShe tried very hard to break down that Irish wall, but it was too thick for even her. A great lady!
  6. You're joking! £4.99 would become £5 and, as usual, vendors would rake in lots of extra 1p's!
  7. Just a stab in the dark. I make it Edward II Class 11a. The initial cross, drapery and crown are my comparisons. Any other ideas?
  8. The could never get rid of the 1p! How on earth could they give you change for their items costing £5.99, £10.99 £499.99........etc?
  9. I remember seeing a 6 foot long snake crossing the perimiter track on Luqua Airfield, Malta, in 1964. I was in a jeep at the time, but it gave me a start! Jet black, it looked like something out of Hollywood! And the Maltese insist that St. Paul banished all snakes from Malta. (Isn't it also claimed by the Irish?)
  10. I don't trhink there was any ulterior motive in the dots being used. If you look at earlier coins, like Henry Ist, Stephen or early Scottish, you will see many designs to 'fill in' the space around the cross. I suppose someone will come up with some hidden meaning, they always do, but, unless it's someone from the British Museum or the British Numismatic Society, I shall be sceptical!
  11. The Palace of Westminster would look good! but, in your other idea, in place of the Millennium Dome I'd put a map of Iraq!
  12. I concur with that,Chris. We should not go "modern" all the time and Britannia was impressive. I still seem to have dislexic fingers and keep having to edit all the time. Is there a pill I can take? (No! Not a cyanide pill)
  13. How does the weight feel? There was a spate of counterfeit £1's around Liverpool, I believe!
  14. I notice Smiths still do not stock your books. What did you do to them, Chris
  15. I'd tend to agree with Sylvester. The bust rt. has as a legend something that looks like FLP . L. D.G. HIS..... The bust appears to be wearing a ruff, placing it 17/18th century. Just a guess!
  16. Strange that Coincraft gives the mintage figure for all individual coin, but not the proof sets!
  17. It looks more like a milled copy to me. As you said, Chris, it's too rounded.
  18. Yes! I was quoting Coincraft who dont seem to discriminate between types of issue each year.
  19. I've just completed a trawl through a jar of about £80's worth of 20p's and have come up with only 4 1992's, only one of the smaller head. So I guess you would say they are scarce, even the large heads, even though there were over 31 million minted!
  20. Smith's is still reluctant to stock coin books (at least in Whitehaven). Wonder why?
  21. Ah! Youth! Congratulations, Make the most of the opportunities that appear!
  22. Thanks for that! My first guess was right, I won't be using the system!!
  23. You guys are talking double Dutch to me (or should it be double Yank?) when you throw these M grades about. Where do you get a definative list of these grades? (not that I'd ever use them!)
