I happened upon Numista.... when I first join the Forum I was depending on everyone to tell me everything.... I've been experiencing fatigue an its been difficult trying to get things right... I did happen upon Numista that seems a useful place to check out coins an lots of extra information, they lower down provided a Numista Rarity index: and a Bullion value: which is useful to know if buying worn out ones so you don't over pay.... I'm also trying to keep the forum tidy and add to my existing topic rather than keep opening new topic... I hope this help, all the very best "H" oh and thank you for the grading. its nice to know that, as another area I'm not sure about!?!?! -

my local "Antiques Fair" has been far than that, the guy who has a box of this and that coins he keep to one side and normally has some hammered coins the lower end but affordable and hes a great guy to know....second time he didn't turn up and Ive been offered first dibs on some Russian silver coins 1800's since Jan...... another dealer who has coins but its all modern nickels and I dont get on with these... I did find a token but keep me busy ..... a brass Fruit & Bell one arm bandit games token... and I did find at the bottom of it all a King George III 1738-1820 Wellington Alexander Bulcher Peace 1814 Medal..... with out this a waste of Sunday !?!?!??!

It was for a long time believed that all that have been drilled / pierced would be not be of any value, the same with rubbed and dinged coins. I did in the past mainly scrapped certain coins to free up capital to buy others, now at my age I feel that my thoughts have changed. the volume of ones that you have found on line that are drilled / pierced are being valued at a price that I'd never considered......the 1678 Charles II 3 pence would have only been a few pence 35 odd years ago found at a boot fair, same with the hammered coins I picked up pre internet days, its been a interesting day finding out about the Counterstamp coin that's a recent find again so I'm more inclined to hang on to the affordable unusual...I could be looking for perfect, mint and uncirculated forever..... many thanks its been very informative. as always.... all the best "H" -

1673 Charles II 3 pence ( Maundy? to be advised) Before the Great Recoinage of 1817, there is no known evidence to suggest that separate 'prooflike' strikes were issued for the Maundy ceremony, suggesting that the money handed out was identical to the circulating coinage at that time. 1670-1684 Demonetized the pierce of the coin is a shame but ok enough for me to keep and the price would have reflected this at the time of purchase.........all them years ago -

hello Paddy, more delving into Sovereigns has provided more information Minting error in the word 'BRITANNIARUM'. A reversed Roman numeral '1' has been used instead of the second letter 'I'. yours has 15 above the rose that's a London Mint number, interestingly I've found that x 2 of mine have S, Sydney Australia mint mark. another uneducated purchase on my part that turned out nicely. -
Hello Mike, Until I arrived here , I'd bought from boot fairs, my lessons being here have been about just because its old wont make it valuable, Ive some very old un's that look like its been rubbed to hell and back, its been educational and still loads more to learn about. ....& don't be afraid to show and tell and do ask loads of questions.... being here is in good company. and welcome rgds "H"
