The Half Crowns I will leave for now, they need looking at before I have them scrappedπ
-
I also have theses Half Crowns... to the pot or keep? sorry to keep asking only I can see that if I don't sort things out they will remain sat in a box in a cupboard and inevitably end up being thrown.....π
-
Many thanks, I have a few worn out coins but the general thought is better to show just in case something gets missed, I tried looking on Ebay to see if one looks in the same condition....it was a space filler and as I was working through my boxes...I found another that's so much better and now added in place of this rubbed out one. Many thanks "H"

ahhhhhhh..........! I understand its bad form to talk "whats it worth?" for me the difficulty is the way silver prices are and how some of the lower grade older coins are able to get a realistic Idea of what the sell price should be? The George I, SSC Shilling 1723 Is something that I will be looking to move on, I don't see it as scrap but its not in fine condition....a difficult call.... many thanks for any input or guidance....most welcome. π

A bit off topic...however it may be of interest...? Victorian Farthing, 1838 there is a line that links NIA in the word BRITANNIAR some of the A's look like solid Bars along the bottom ....unless these are common? any input and if its a "keep" greatly welcome π

Ahhhhhh...! so the H mint coin had the potential to be of interest albeit for the fact 1882 was mass produced by Heatons.....bummer!! 1862 circulated so no interest 1773 & 1775 are possibly contemporary forgery produced in the US ..... now that got to be of interest ?!?!?! Did I mention "I don't feel any thing for the Pennies!?!" all the very best "H"

Aha, A few more raise their heads, Interestingly one has the "H" Heaton Mint Mark...I understand that this may be the most interesting of the group? open and honest I don't feel any thing for the Pennies, looking just to keep the important ones for the family. any advise or guidance most welcome.

Ah... its the counterstamps that I would like to pursue, I have some Reales that have various Chinese counterstamps that are believed to be merchant stamps... the other 2 attached are British coins counterstamped to be used in other country's so looking to find out where?
-
Aha.. do tell more..I have a few and have been wondering where to go to discover more details out... any Ideas where to go? π

I couldn't agree more, I didn't have a agenda when buying coins and not knowing anything I bought any items I found old and interesting .....and cheap π€·I like Paddy's with chunk missing...It has character, I have a few that have chunks missing and others with holes that have been worn as a pendants..... one is in a really good condition easy to make out the king and letters... I guess this came to be as it was worn rather than in circulation. π

AHA! only a couple of thousand coins to look through ? me to...Ive spent a year of sorting through 30+ years of boot fair and flea market finds, amongst my hoard there's been some surprising finds that I completely forgot about. there's a few silver Dollars amongst others I'm going to have to dig out a Buffalo coin...It has a mint flaw...I think, I have kept the silver ones that aren't to worn as I'm not in no rush to move these on until retirement π -

Citizen H replied to JTerry3's topic in British Hammered
wow! π² what a find... well done you.π -
revisiting this topic...... I am able to confirm they weigh 1.2 grms each, rather than invest in a vernier measuring tool is there a better ruler that can recommended ??? hopefully the additional phots may be of help towards finalising their identification....and ..are they Edward I ?

Starting off, I owe you all a big Thank You...I came here 1 year ago and was recovering from a stroke... my reading and speaking has got better and my chaos has improved as well.... to a degree. Ive attached some photos of what's been paged and has put some order in place.... if the worse happen I'd hate to think what would have happen to these coins... The hammered coins (pennies) still cause problems for me and still there others to follow.... Sorry! π once again a huge Thank You one and all for the support and clarification when assisting my queries, I wouldn't have been able to have got this far without it. Kind Regards "H"

How to tell if coins have been cleaned.
Citizen H replied to Coins Of the UK and US's topic in Beginners area
maybe its been washed, to remove grime it will tone down in time, its been circulated so expect scratches, wear, and dings. πI must dig out some of mine... -

just chipping in.... I tend to wash mine, warm soapy water, ultra soft brush to remove all the hand grime, some of my circulated Maundy's have improve immensely ....I tend to leave tarnished one's alone and never used silver dip,..... as mention by others gentle sympathetic washing wont harm the coins, rinse with cool clean water and pat dry, it works for meπ -

These are the best of my bunch, 1864 is probably the best example that I have, these as the rest I have were boot fair finds well over 30 years ago, pre computers internet day and age...... also It turns out 12 months have passed by it was 1 year today that I first joined www.predecimal.com/forum ππ» -
Hello Jerry, I have the scales that show they weigh 1 gram each, I took additional photos using a more up to date technology.... both coins are in a truly worn out condition so I was surprised that anything could be discovered....

I shared these photos with another expert. to my surprise they both have been identified in this condition. π² Edward I, penny, Canterbury. CIVI TAS CAN TOR Edward I, base silver, large flan, farthing. London LON DON IEN SIS crikey I nearly put them in with the others that are rubbed beyond recognition. This has been a great end to the year for me. ππ»
