  1. I'm just having a look through Freeman and wanted to query what the small numbers are next to the year date on some of the coins please? For example, the 1870 penny has a small 14 by the side of it. What have I missed?
  2. This looks far nicer in your pictures than it did on the Baldwins site. No idea how they image their coins, but I've never liked them.
  3. Having just got back from London, I can safely say that I think there is a belting storm due. It was very, very close.

    Rare 20p

This is the blurb from the Tennants website: For those with an interest in error coins the forthcoming sale will feature a rare 20p Error Coin with Royal Mint certification. This 1990 20p has been struck on a copper-plated steel blank intended for one of the other countries the Royal Mint produces coins for; a spectacular error and the only one of its kind known, on discovery the coin was featured in the national press. The coin is encapsulated and graded MS63 by ANACS and is complete with Royal Mint letter of accreditation (estimate: £1,200-1,800 plus buyer’s premium).

    Rare 20p

A lot of the English language is getting butchered at the moment. Listening to kids outside the shop the other day was like listening to someone speak another language.

    Rare 20p

Just saw this on the Yahoo page: https://uk.yahoo.com/news/the-rare-20p-coin-that-could-be-worth-£1800-185645546.html Apparently paid £50 off of eBay. You win some, you lose some.
  7. This one just screams "COME AND BUY ME!" Form an orderly queue please. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314673920956?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20221115143056%26meid%3D8205371e550c4927af40316c73ffe299%26pid%3D101612%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D314673920956%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2&_trksid=p4375194.c101612.m4236&_trkparms=parentrq%3A08b7487a1890a4f3a96c96cbffff4876|pageci%3A8b10ffb0-16b6-11ee-99e7-b698a8f7d732|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage
  8. You boy's knowledge is always an amazement to me. Learn something new almost every day. Thank you.
  9. Any chess players on here that use chess.com? I'm not particularly good but I play a lot of 3 minute blitz games, so if anyone gets involved there, let me know as I'm happy to give anyone a game.
  10. Great, thanks both. Getting the hang of these now, so that's my Saturday afternoon sorted out...
  11. Morning all, Just wondered if you could possibly confirm the die pairing on this 1861 halfpenny for me please? I'm sure I haven't asked before, so please forgive me if it's a duplicate. I'm using the great halfpennyvariety site to work it out, and I think this is 7 + G (missing rocks?) variety. Be grateful if someone could confirm for me please. Thanks.
  12. I think that might be a 2 + B as the cross points directly between 2 beads?
  13. Interesting. I have several NGC graded farthings and one in particular (I think I may have mentioned on here before) has one of those little white crumbs of whatever on Victoria's chest. It's tiny but I notice it. It isn't a proof so not that concerned really, but this new addition is an 1868 proof rated as R17, and I really don't want any grubby detritus attaching itself to the coin for obvious reasons. The proofs I've bought in the past are usually dispatched in a small cellophane pocket inside a paper envelope, but that's obviously no use for long term storage. I have some coins in the Lighthouse capsules, but I'd want them to be quite a good fit to prevent it from sliding around inside it.
  14. Yes, you're right thinking about it. Brain freeze my end. Ta.
  15. Afternoon all, Probably a simple question but one I think I should ask. I've just acquired a couple of proof farthings and wanted to check that these will be perfectly happy living in my cabinet? Being proofs do they need to be protected in any other way to make sure they remain in the condition they went in at? Cheers.
  16. Nope, that's as fresh as a daisy new turf. Artificial grass is anathema to me as someone that maintains gardens for a living. Absolutely hate it. And unfortunately I live next door to someone that loves the bloody tree rats, and the actual rats that have now been disturbed by the other neighbours building work and are running all over the show. Real pests, and so are the rats as well. Thanks mate. It cost enough and it won't be being done again in my lifetime. That's a nice sized plot you have there. Plenty of opportunity to change things if you wanted to, and to get it how you want it to look.
  17. It's a big improvement on the last, but still the up-close finish is lacking. As someone once said to me in the 90's, "nice from far, but far from nice", and I've never forgotten it. We get plagued by tree rats here, so pots will be at a minimum which is a shame as they give you so much more versatility. I need to get a Jack Russell, a proper countryman's dog.
  18. Couldn't add the second one, so here it is
  19. Here is a before and after pics of the back garden. I haven't got pictures of it planted yet as that's a work in progress.
  20. Nice chap is Mark. Spent a few quid with him over the past year and has some nice pieces. Always ready for a chat.
  21. That's the NGC premium for you
  22. That's interesting. Just comparing it to an 1823 and the diagonal stroke of the 3 would roughly be in the right spot. Interested to hear what you think when in hand 👍
  23. Acers are stunners. I have several of them and have had great success, although the ones I've planted in my customers gardens have been a mixed bunch. At £4, that's less than a pint so well worth it. This Acer was put in my front yard in about 2008 and literally only as thick as broomstick. Now it's about a 6"trunk so obviously in the right spot.
  24. That's about where I would expect them to be really. It doesn't seem a scarce variety
  25. Just had my garden re-landscaped by an 'approved' landscaper. All I can say is that if you want a job done properly, make sure you go and see first hand the quality of the work that gets done. I certainly wouldn't be happy to put my name to the job as a company, and you should never hear ''It'll be behind the shed, so you won't see it'' from someone you're paying through the nose for. Anyway, I'll put up some before and after pics when I can get round to it. Even though it's an average at best job, it's still an improvement on the last.
