  1. Plus if I were going to go for pennies (and had the funds) I think I might start with something more like this:
  2. LOL Not sure about that. I am very fussy after all. For example I could get up to three decent Chas shillings for the price of this: .
  3. Hmm .. I occasionally look at pennies. Even John, which seems to me to be a more consistent series, I've yet to find a coin that really 'does' it for me. But then I guess it comes down to what you're prepared to accept. For me I think it would take a good deal of time and possibly money to assemble a collection I would be happy with ... fussy bugger, aren't I? .
  4. New mm for me. Nautilus? 251798244710
  5. Many thanks guys (and gal!) Having a very nice evening eating unhealthily, drinking profusely and paying with my new phone. .
  6. This work? (You take the url and paste it between {img}{/img} replacing the {s with square brackets [ to get the code to work ...) .
  7. Aargh! My eyes! 271740955580 Not a fake. Just really, really horribly polished. Ugh. Sad. .
  8. True. But if it were me and someone told me it was a copy, I'd ask what the weight should be and check mine .. wouldn't you? Unless of course you already knew didn't care ... .
  9. Sigh. This is a re-listing 261732478837 of a coin someone bid up to £1000 a little while ago. "Your item is a replica. Hence I suspect why someone bid it up last time. To ensure some unsuspecting innocent didn't waste their money. The weight will confirm or not ..." "How would you know it's a replica?" "Will you justify your statement " "I have one just like it I bought a few years ago at a museum. Some are stamped WRL, some are not. But they are all the same shape and the design is 'softer' than the real thing as they were cast. However the weight is the key thing as the replicas are made of lead-free pewter rather than silver. If you have scales you can check. I just mention it to save you from the risk of someone wanting to return it as 'not as described'." And the answer ... ""This one wasn't bought though & it as no WRL stamp on it" Hmm .. .
  10. Plugged would be my opinion too. $1400, eh? Hmmm. .
  11. IMHO Fair at best, which is the grade below Fine: "A coin that exhibits wear, with the main features still distinguishable, and the legends, date and inscriptions still readable". .
  12. Top left, groat of Henry VIII appears to be a modern (WRL) copy in lead-free pewter. Bottom a Krauwinkel / Nuremberg jetton not a coin. The top right? Sixpence of Elizabeth I I'm guessing. Condition? Mediocre, in that the reverse is OK, but I can't see poor Liz's face. Personally? I'd pass. .
  13. Eternity Warriors III for me on my Windows 7 laptop. But I think I'll just wait until I get my new phone ..
  14. To answer your question Jordan, Irish coins do have their key dates, rarities and errors like any other series. It's not an area I have any experience with but you might like to check out Del Parker's site : http://www.irishcoins.com/ or this one: http://www.irishcoinage.com/CATALOG.HTM Good luck! .
  15. Afraid not and I can't see anything that specifically matches in Eaglen. (Pages 136-157 http://www.britnumsoc.org/publications/Digital%20BNJ/2001.shtml ) However the lack of prices, use of 'King' and presence of both a ticket to go with the coin and a 'stock' one suggest a collector rather than a dealer to me. The fact that they have gone to the care of writing the roundel first in pencil then inking in supports that to my mind. I suspect most dealers just want something to remind them what it is and how much to charge, so rattle off their tickets rather more casually. Obviously use of a fibre tip pen means they are relatively modern, but the style is traditional ... Not much help I'm afraid. .
  16. As you've managed to post photos here, I've deleted your other thread as a duplicate Luke. Welcome to predecimal by the way. I hope someone can help you with your query. Tom
  17. No. They managed to get it right. £23 airmail shipping for a book same width and height as Brooker but thicker. 1750g, so no lightweight! But no import duties, so I'm happy. .
  18. Arrived safely today, so that's 12 days from the seller in the US sending it to Pitney Bowes. All in all, not too bad an experience. .
  19. Welcome emax! Not sure if you have a coin or something commonly called a temple token - a religious souvenir. I can tell you it's Indian, and similar to this: http://www.ancientresource.com/lots/indus_valley/india-kushan-empire.html Hope that helps. .
  20. A quick (0800!) phone call reveals my package is in the process of being handed over to Hermes to deliver. Under a (third and) completely different tracking number, but hey .. so long as it gets here safely, I don't care. .
  21. I hope everyone enjoyed the festivities. I'm catching up now I'm back from work with a very nice Belgian beer soon to be followed with a glass of Calvados. Good thing I'm not back in work until tomorrow afternoon!
  22. Well, the first stage went fine with detailed tracking via USPS up to delivery at Pitney Bowes facility in Erlanger KY. And it appears my book is now in the UK as it's supposedly with the UK delivery service (13ten). But getting the tracking number to work on their website, or finding out which carrier will be bringing my purchase to my door is so far proving tricky. I'll maybe phone them tomorrow and see if I can get some clarification... watch this space. .
  23. Happy New Year all.
  24. LOL Back in the day I remember my Dad building a Sinclair Micromatic radio. Fast forward and Father-in-Law got a Raspberry Pi B for Christmas. Not much bigger than that Sinclair jobby all those years ago. Amazing! .
  25. As long as I can go "Computer..." and it does what I want, I'll be happy. But seriously it's made me realise how much new technology can make you feel the years advancing! I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not actually getting a phone but a chunk of hardware that does pretty much everything my laptop does. More perhaps. It's kinda amazing to me ... though of course to my daughter and her friends it's all perfectly normal that you can have your entire life on one device ... But then perhaps I should have gotten accustomed to such things by now. I can remember being astonished when my then employer upgraded their computer system to 4GB of memory. Those 4GB took up just four small suitcase sized boxes and I thought that was amazing. Yesterday I bought 32GB. On a micro-SD card the size of my finger nail. And which cost me less than a quarter of what I paid for my first scientific calculator .... Makes me feel so OLD!!!
