    I'm from Kidderminster, about 6 miles down the road from Stourbridge. I lived in Stourbridge for a few years. I've been watching this thread and it's ben entertaining and interesting. Are the outside advertising rim added to the coin generally aluminium?

    If I had kept the ebay picture of a set of pennies and put it in this thread, everyone would say the '1' of the 1909 was over a tooth. When it arrived it so hilariously wasn't. Just the angle of the light. That's all it was. And this was a good VF+ example.

    Looks like it to me from that pic. I usually check by looking at the 'N' pointing in 'ONE, but this one is tricky...

    My once-owned 1927 3d had obvious circulation wear on it - 15,022 from memory? hazelman put it well- the history in my pocket in the 60's as a kid was fascinating. I remember so clearly being given an 1860 penny in the Co-op on the corner of Crowther street ( gone) in Kidderminster in about 1967 and just staring at it in wonderment- how could this still be in use after over 100 years??? I suppose people think the Very Rare 1971 penny is ancient....

    At least my Mother in Law is out of hospital having swallowed the 1927 florin I had put in the mix bowl. I had told her that the Proof was in the Pudding, but i think she misunderstood....

    Been a difficult Christmas capped ( I thought ) this morning by finding out my car's turbo needs replacing. Great. Then........got news of Neil Innes dying. This has really knocked me back. I met him four times after his shows- such a lovely lovely man. My first album was History of the Bonzos ..... Anyone else feel kicked in the stomach?

    Curiously, like many tomes that have a hell of a lot of work hidden behind a simple façade, it's actually quite interesting, when one is curious about 'how things wear out', often involving denominations that have never appealed.... Strange thing, grading. "Eye appeal" or "better in the hand" or "toning" etc. etc. could make all this a referenceless minefield, whereas this books is a good attempt to create a reference frame that's needed.

    Hmmm...I've been toying with putting my odds and sods of pennies into some of these folders- the worn ones don't drop out, and you can see both sides - anyone have views on these or any going spare?

    My next door neighbours have two huge gold chairs that they sit in over the holiday period, in their hideously decorated lounge, thinking they are the King and Queen of Christmas. God knows where they keep them the rest of the year - I think the whole thing's stupid, since I feel that people who live in crass houses shouldn't stow thrones.
