  1. I was in the OU Astronomy club for some years, and photographed both the Transits of Venus and Mercury. Photos somewhere. Digital hunt in progress. We did the limb timings that confirm that Einstein was cleverer than us, apparently.
  2. I just asked my wife to put on a nurses uniform. She said "Are you feeling frisky?" I replied "No, we need bread."
  3. Yes..clear as clear. Amazing......! On the way up the interstate from Vegas we stopped to fill up, and I got talking to a Japanese tourist who'd come over for the eclipse. He asked me whether I was worried about the crowds. I said no, since we were going to be in a field in the middle of nowhere, and he replied " No...not crowds - crowds!!! Crowds across the sun.." Honest. I genuinely misunderstood.... I was at Munich Observatory for the 1999 one, and I took a small medium wave radio with me, and the night before I tuned it to a music station a long way away. I switched it on before the eclipse, and it was just producing quiet static, but when we got totality, the music blasted out!! A nice little experiment that the science-minded Germans around me liked.
  4. It's actually called Atomic City, but when you go there, 'Gonad' seems better.
  5. Me, the day before the 2017 total eclipse, waiting for service at the gas station in Gonad, Idaho.
  6. I got bored this week, and made this, and posted it to a mate, and he was rather concerned at first...
  7. "Smoking Knee" is in Wyoming. Or should be.
  8. Just watched it again....sooo good.
  9. Yeah, I can tell the 1874's from across a room, and the rev on this one is a doddle. However- is the 'no signature' judged purely by the gap, and how come the ribbon appears central in the pic, and should be cut left? The pic below is exactly what I can see on fleabay...have you all got eyes like hawks, or do you judge using different clues?
  10. I'm trying ( and partially failing) to get to grips with the differences between types of worn 1861 pennies. Can anyone tell me why this went for the price it did? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1861-Victoria-Penny/184191413965?hash=item2ae2a9eecd:g:hNkAAOSwLRpeWnyd
  11. ...and I suppose you've also notice June Whitfield in The Blood Donor......
  12. Fantastic!! I'd forgotten how good Patricia Hayes was....
  13. i think I mean the second one down being the common one....
  14. Just listened to the whole thing in the workshop. Didn't get much work done
  15. Oh wow that's great! Many years ago I went though a pile of 1901's, and found three or four of the wide ones. I've looked since then at every 1901 I ever see on line- I've never seen one. The second one down turns up- I have to really check to see if it's totally over the 1, and it hasn't been. The third one down amounts to 95% of them , in my estimation. The bottom one is also one I've been looking for- not seen one in any condition. I could be wrong on this- pointings in photographs are so influenced by lighting angles etc.
  16. I remember Terry put up a montage of 1901 penny date widths, particularly pointing out the position of the last '1'. I think this is an extra wide version- '1' over the tooth completely?
  17. It'll be £25 a bottle by the end of the week...
  18. I bought Norton Antivirus, because of what the bloke in the shop said, so I'm ok now.
  19. Which Archers character will die from the coronavirus??? Do we care?
  20. Today I got a 1911 hollow neck in F for £15. I'm really pleased.
