A satirical medalet produced in 1830 to commemorate the appointment of Charles Grey, the second Earl Grey, as British Prime Minister. He retained that post from 1830 until 1834. The medal was made because the previous Prime Minister, the Duke of Wellington who had defeated Napolean Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, had refused to allow for the reform of the British Parliamentary system and had been forced to resign. Grey took his place in 1830 and his government passed the Reform Act of 1832 and abolished slavery throughout the British Empire the following year.
