  1. He was a true inspiration, and arguably saved his greatest achievement for the last year of his life. A real hero from the time you see him as a young guy in that photo of him serving in the war, to now. Unfortunately he couldn't have the covid vaccine because of the medication he was on. RIP Captain Sir Tom Moore.

  2. I have a feeling that DNW would start at bottom estimate rather than 90%, but I don't know why I think that.

  6. If you hit the '0' with a blunt small chisel with an oblique blow, it would cut the circle and 'pile up' some of the bronze, giving that look of the bar of a 'G'....and lo and behold, through the gap in the 'G', there is a shallow groove, looking to be a depression below the level of the field. The thinning of the 'O' above the 'bar' of the 'G' looks like the effect of localised corrosion. Maybe...:)

  8. I took the dog to the field behind the driving range yesterday, and they must have had some big hitters in the previous night. Dog found 9 golf balls, none of them top class but they'll keep him amused for a good while. Stuffed them into me trousers and took the bus home. I sat down next to a nice looking blonde lass. She kept looking at me and my bulging pockets. Finally, after many glances from her, I said "It's golf balls". She carried on looking at me for a very long time, thinking deeply about what I'd said. Finally, unable to contain her curiosity any longer, she asked "Does it hurt as much as tennis elbow?

  9. Please could someone explain what the COA will certify - the D, the E or the I, or maybe all three? Or maybe it's the flaw in what is otherwise a pleasant undulating surface, bringing back memories of the sheet as it rolled off the mill?

  12. Agreed - and a consistent temperature is important (within reason). Attics are generally a very bad place to store coins as the temperature varies wildly over the year, often freezing in the winter and 30c + in the summer. (Hotter than outside because of the roofs exposure to direct sun.) Attics are generally not good for storing anything of value. Wood dries out and splits, oil paintings crack, silver tarnishes and clothes get mildew.
