  1. Very pleased with the Bramah 25c 1858/? I've just bought from Nathan Smith. Just £40 and in EF. Not certain of their true scarcity or otherwise, but it's only the second one I've seen, and the first one, which I bought for £25, is a battered sub fine, with signs of rubbed letters. Maybe sometime cleaned, but certainly re-toning. link to e bay sale

  2. Well, that was an education. It stood for a few days at £80 and I was very well pleased, after which came an attack from an ID I recognised as an American dealer in U.S. Colonials. (Anything bearing the head of the Georges becomes< automatically "colonial.") He kindly boosted it to £137, whence I gratefully expected it to stay. After a day or so I began to think that if a dealer were prepared to push the price by $35, then maybe collectors might pile in. They did. Tonight @ 09.30 it sold for £ 204.86 and the purchaser paid three minutes later.

  3. I suspect there is some child somewhere that is going to be very disappointed, unless off course he/she is a coin collector.

  4. Well spotted Mike. It's another one of those 8/? dates which is often discussed, and has some unusual protrusions on the numeral 8, which aren't always obvious.......these are highlighted by red arrows in my attached picture. I think this date variety is always seen with a die flaw running from front of truncation to border. I believe this type is a single obverse / reverse die pairing; I have always noted that the reverse paired with this particular obverse has a number of 'signature' legend repairs, the most interesting probably the repaired first A of BRITANNIAR.................also pictured below.

  5. I'm sure that if I were in business, having an efficient website would be the top priority.

  6. First thing I noticed. Reminded me of Baldwins.

  7. Yes, it's a lousy site in that you can't go directly to a particular monarch/denomination. All the coins are in random order rather than date sequence so you have to go through every page of, say, base metal, to check out every penny. Staggering in its non-simplicity.

  8. Still somewhat difficult to navigate. Not the best for organisation, or clear as to what is newest and a bit of a struggle to get through. Still, Mark has gotten me some reMARKable coins over the years - truly spectacular on occasion. I suspect his interests these last few years have broadened/shifted a bit. Now if only he can find me the missing specimen 1920 3d and 6d! And resurrect my long-lost 1863 florin!

  9. Good luck Richard. I have had covid-19 for a month, and just got my first negative swab today. The Dr said probably 2 more weeks of fatigue as the virus goes away! Bob Crawford, USA.

  10. Sorry, I meant 1860JB. I'm not at my best at the moment - I had to go for a Covid19 test today after 4 days of fever.
