  1. Simple. It's because "acquisition" is spelled correctly here.

  3. I've developed an interest in British coinage if for no other reason than here in the U.S. (or at the very least in my region of the country) U.K.issues are very much something of a collecting backwater, and thus I find some really great material relegated to dealers' "bargain" bins. Case in point - this 1831 ".W.W" variety William IV penny turned up at a local (that being in my largely rural area a relative term, as it was still a sixty mile drive, one way) coin club sponsored show in a tray of "junk" coppers, and therefore cost me virtually nothing.

  4. The fair moved from the Cumberland Hotel to the Holiday Inn at Bloomsbury a good few years ago now. Someone will know the dates the fairs are on.

  5. I'm not sure that I've ever posted one of my coins on this thread. Probably because I rarely acquire new coins at the moment I agree with the general sentiment though; it would be simpler if all acquisition pictures were in one place, but I'd rather people kept posting them somewhere rather than nowhere, since it provides vicarious pleasure!

  7. This happened to be in a batch of Greek coins that I had the good fortune to be the first to go through. The distinctive, concave "waffle" reverse was what made it stand out to me. It turns out to be an issue associated with Dardanos in the Troas region of Asia Minor, and probably dates back to the 6th century BC. Dimensions are roughly 11 by 7.5 mm, with its weight coming in at 0.57 grams. Here're a couple of (closed) auction listings that validate its attribution: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3345204 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1350692 I feel very lucky to have stumbled across this as I did.

  8. I'm also on board with it being barbarous, and I'll add that I'd judge the condition for such to be exceptional.

  9. Well I see 2 variations but weather they are the official ones. the Angle on the H of Elizabeth favours the left upright whereas on the 2nd coin it is dead center of the H. Same for the OMN The M on first coin favours the center of the M and the 2 nd coin is closer to the right upright if that makes sense but defo different legend positions

  10. Correct. The obvious pointer (literally) is the 'I' in 'ELIZABETH', which is either pointing to the right of a corner or pointing to a corner.

  13. certainly was. I thought the obverse was going to be a dog and compared to the other 3 coins he had I was pleasantly surprised. Doesn't happen very often but very grateful when it does
