I really don’t like this seller, I got really cross with them about 4 years ago over an Elizabeth martlet shilling that was for sale at £1k. It was at a time I could afford it and offered 900 cash privately, and would pick it up! They wouldn’t budge, and I couldn’t make them understand they’d actually be better off if I bought it without PP and Ebay charges, and with no delivery risks! Grrr! They sold it on eBay about 2 weeks later, annoying! Anyway, I dislike them even more now, because these people actually know a little bit about coins...enough to know they are being deceptive here!3 points

I'd be most happy with the 1898, but then my standards haven't risen quite to the dizzy heights of everyone elses (yet..)1 point

Hi Peter yes was an eBay purchase not that expensive just thought I would take a chance. My fault entirely, will put it down to experience and move on. Thanks Nonmortuus for your comments, by the way I wish I knew your first name I am hopeless at remembering first names. Thanks Stuntman for your input very welcome, and again sorry forgot your first name as well. I will go with the majority and keep the first one thanks. While we are on the subject of cleaning I would value you opinions on the other coin I have just purchased below. Would be interested in what you think of this one another 1898 3d.1 point

As per the title for information and for anyone who is interested. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/6274/uk-expedite-february-2018/?utm_source=Mx%20Group&utm_medium=Email%20Blast&utm_campaign=18-NG-2308%20Heritage%20UK%20Expedite%20eBlast&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTm1Oa1ltUTJOekUyTUdKaSIsInQiOiJDVXRzcXVNOXcxSkVDTm1OaUlwTThiUkxpRWVwMXhFdmFGTzVuY0ZYNGQycGljamVpWkZFcFwva2FlVWVIdXhUYzFiOGFtRzRIVEV4c2ZVZVdLaXdWclhVVVlMYnBaaWlMUUVzdUF0VGZnSXg0bVl6QnJNVHBjUXNWbTJ4UjBNQnIifQ%3D%3D1 point

No, honestly they get puffed up like that during the monsoon. It's just that some of them don't flatten out afterwards. Ever so rare.1 point

While it's occasionally fun to jest, in all seriousness, how much would a coin in that state actually fetch if it did turn out to be a rare one? My commmon sense screams "but who on earth would want such a thing?" .. and my OCD side screams back "Whatever it takes to fill that damn gap"... Am I Conflicted much?1 point

Hi Coys55, this item has been discussed elsewhere on this forum. It seems almost certain that it is not a genuine siege piece. If you look at Rob or Kal’s recent posts on the subject, you will find more info. I would be highly suspicious of any siege piece on EBay that does not come from a professional dealer (and, I’m afraid, most that do unless with provenance). Jerry1 point

It's too worn to see whether the exergue has the curve. Now what you need to tell us is - where are the initials LCW? Below the lighthouse or below the foot?1 point

Given the mintage of what was it 7 or 8 known examples, if you had one and you knew it had a decent history, 30 seconds on google should have you running directly for a) the royal mint or 2) a reputable coindealer or III) a prominent Coin Aution house. You wouldn't flog it off to someone who seems unable to speak english for a few quid, surely?1 point

lol - I too had noticed it had been reduced from £50k to £8k over the holidays.... surely it isn't real at that price? It has some odd wear on the patina on the heads side.... but I am not an expert.....1 point

At £27 for a copy, I'm not sure. There's been no shortage of accurately described copies of various types selling for more.1 point

Hi all this is my last acquisition of the year , a new Edwardian Irish penny Unfortunatly I have only the seller's images , when I will have the coin in my hands I will post better photos. Even if the conservation is not very high I decided to buy it due to the fact that, in my opinion, this is a quite scarce variant of the common class 1b, without the dot before EDW ( Stewartby writes: "rarerly omitted" ) and with the gothic "N" in the reverse legend.1 point

A half honest description. Doesn't state a copy, but does say for those who can't afford the £1000 plus. Just needs to dig a bit deeper and come completely clean.1 point
