  1. Today
  2. Yes that's the guy .
  3. Today I looked back through them that remained of Grandads coins (photo Attached), I recall there was a Topic of the cost of silver... it was mentioned that at the announcement that coins would be Half Silver caused people to hoard solid silver coins pre 1920's .....thinking on this I now think this may have been my Grandfathers thought....as none of the coins are in great condition and no serious though has gone into his hoard... the 3 pence dates were random and 7 x of the same date??!?! yeah he had a Stash / Hoard on the go, Looking skyward "God Bless you Fella!" I've sifted through and will keep them that are acceptable, the scrap ones can be sold and fund decent examples to fill in gaps.... I think this is the road to be taking.
  4. Dr Larry of 'lions and lambs' fame?
  5. Thanks to Chris my old page is now available at https://www.predecimal.com/GIII/
  6. Yes as paddy said Play money. Made by Lauer. https://en.numista.com/311988?__cf_chl_tk=SkFhvm769DxgmHJNvQicb7RXHlVjQnK2fiMqA1ccGFw-1770787339-1.0.1.1-2955O2W6AK5Em8WqxPzo5Ya6D5aQdzCpREogYaEPDyg There used to be someone on here year's ago who collected it but i forget his name. Think he was a Dr. Stu.
  7. Yesterday
  8. Thanks, just noticed it says "imitation"
  9. Generally referred to as "Toy Money". Produced in the late 19th century for play and education purposes.
  10. Here is the reverse, had to zoom in to make it under 500 kb
  11. Any ideas what this is? It's size is in-between 1.5d and 2d Thanks
  12. Of course the fish tail could simply be damage? The lettering of the coin is pretty distinctive, however, so finding the monarch should be quite doable!
  13. The darker coin looks to have the Edward II crown of class 11 as imaged (and all credit to the amazing book Rob credited above for this). The other one is too time consuming for me to look into (I don’t have a lot of free time at the moment), though the serpentine/fish-tail S is probably a good launch pad for you to start from. Good luck πŸ‘
  14. So LSD is pre jimmi hendrix?
  15. Hi folks, I picked this 1913 freeman 177 up today. On close inspection, it appears to have significant offset doubling on the portrait. No signs of double strike on the legend. Any thoughts on how this could have happened, and does anyone else have or has seen a similar example?
  16. Again, I can only recommend Galata's excellent tome on the pennies of the Edwards. Real research has been done there. All Paul and Bente's writing is of the highest quality by a pair who know their stuff, and as references will struggle to be equalled. Go for it. Splash the cash. You won't regret it. Incidentally, I also have a set of North, vols. 1 & 2, both new. Β£40 per volume or Β£70 the pair pus postage. PM me if interested. Thanks.
  17. A repeat revisiting of this topic...... I am able to confirm they weigh 1.2 grms each, By chance can the Edward be Identified on the coins, I'm trying to deal with ones that are outstanding before progressing.... Many Thanks "H"
  18. Last week
  19. now thats interesting, I did do a search and counted the other lower star shape as leaves with berries, making the 4 either side hence why I thought aha this is the 27 count...The numista I previously took a look at https://en.numista.com/24095 and this Numista only mentioned 28,27 & 25....many thanks for pointing this out πŸ‘
  20. Nice coin! It is type 1 Rupee and has 19 berries I think. Minted in either Bombay or Madras - I find the books very confusing as to which for this series. There are several varieties but all broadly of the same value. More detail here: https://en.numista.com/9718
  21. I have a few colonial coins that are in need of sorting out, today this was fished out of the pot of others, I'm pleased I did as after a warm soapy soak (and it was well minging!!!) all of the circulation hand grease and crud washed off left the coin's details come out. its pretty good for a Victorian Colonial...πŸ‘ unsure of the grade but better than just good... 27 berries, W.W. raised.
  22. found in my box amongst the other unidentified hammered silver coins... yet to be identified...!?! is its possible that this could be .... Medieval Crusader Coin Bronze Denier or Follis... issued by Tancred of Antioch 1101-1112....?
  23. certainly yes , in the war years QC was not the same as when we were not at war
  24. I can see the shape you have outlined, but the body of the rider seems to be incuse, which seems unusual? I don't know of many Ancient coins with the thick border rim, not with a blank reverse. No further forward I fear.
  25. Yes Paddy i was the same, couldn't make head nor tail of it, excuse the pun, until my son took a close up picture and outlined it. Apologies for the drawing
  26. I had a few looks, but I couldn't make much sense of this as a coin. The blank reverse is unusual and the detail on the obverse is difficult to make out. I thought a button, but at 36g that sounds unlikely. Maybe a plaque or insert to a decoration that has then been in the ground for a long time?
  27. Hey thanks for trying anyway m8 πŸ‘
  28. I was thinking perhaps grease in the die as there is no relief to the part of the "E" it seems you are referring to.
