I had these coin folders for most of my collection that I didn't trust the plastic in. So I bought new binder and some better sheets like I've been using for my shilling run and transferred everything over today. While moving the Elizabeth II sets - both l/s/d & decimal - I noticed something that struck me as interesting. Back when the UK changed to decimal, the new 5p & 10p were made the size and weight of the shilling and florin respectively. That ended in 1990 and then over the next couple of years the 5p, 10p, and 50p were made physically smaller. Also in there though the £1 coins and the £2 coins were introduced. The bi-metal £1 is essentially the same diameter and just a bit heavier than a shilling was. The bi-metal £2 coin is almost exactly the size and weight of the florin. I looked at the value of the 1966 shilling at the Bank of England's inflation calculator and even more humorously, the shillings buying power then was £0.82 in December of 2025 - a florin equaling £1.74 now. Not too far off from £1 & £2 pound coins! Perhaps the UK should introduce a circulating £5 coin of 32.5mm and 14.14 grams... ? 🤣

I have to at least make some cursory effort to inform myself as to why two members are not getting along. Get a bit of background, you know. Although I think I probably wish I hadn't. The BLM thing was years ago and this is a coin forum. Peckris' recent post about Jenrick was silly, but he's still not going on and on about the same thing for years. I'm going to close this topic for now. I may open it again at some point. Please don't start another one or carry on somewhere else where you left off. I think we know where you're coming from by now and you and Peckris are never going to be buddies. That's it, back to coins.

Sorry Chris, when did I ask you to read the thread? You don't have to read it. I posted the message as Peckris to asked for it. It's not tit-for-tat nonsense, so I'd suggest politely you read it. I was quite clearly laying out, with obvious explanation and official statistics, that we have been lied to by media and politicians (a lie of omission) about the BLM cause, its not racist police but elevated levels of black violence that cause a disparity in per capita deaths, and as a result we now have accelerated DEI, further racism-inference of white people and further enabled mass immigration. I have never posted a vitriolic post "in the past" but you're not having a go at Peckris for suggesting that. What does sadden me is the constant cheap Trump-bashing, see above a photoshop of him meeting Hitler, another joke on another thread from Peckris about Robert Jenrick's seat aptly being Newark as it's an anagram of you-know-what. I mean - is this the level you prefer?

That would be a shame Richard. Of the almost 200k posts, the number of arguments where things get nasty/personal can probably be counted on one AI hand 😉.

FFS, alright STOP. How do you have the energy to hold a grudge for 5+ years and still get so worked up now? I can't even be bothered to read all of the 'Proof there is no god' thread, because even with my 'neutral' cap on, trying to be objective, you really do seem to moan on and on and on. Richard, it's up to you of course, but you don't have to read it - it's got nothing to do with you. Peckris asked for the link, I sent him the message which had his inserts in it. I had to put up with several other unpleasant comments leading up to that message. That's what you get for telling a surprisingly unpopular and pretty obvious truth, but there we are. Anyway, I would like to hear more about Peckris's "nothing but vitriol in the past" comment. Apart from putting in his dilemma with honesty just up the page (the very recent past), based on his previous behaviour towards me, I think he's made it up, so let's clear it up. I don't know about you, but I don't like to be slandered, so I'm not moving on just yet. He'd blocked me for 6 years (as he told 1949threepence, who then had to cut and paste a long comment about Net Zero from me to get Peckris to reply - no chance there of course!) So I'd be surprised there were any of these supposed vitriolic comments in the cupboard. Still, if he produces the evidence, I'll apologise of course, who knows, perhaps I wrote them in my sleep. If not, he's being naughty, it's a strong description and I'm not one to put it into comments in general. No one does.

Yes, at a certain angle with my coin above you can detect the H.

I'm happy to go with that. I do realise that politically I'm in the minority here, but most of you guys don't have a problem with it.

The other thing you have to consider is that what's left of the H has been artificially rubbed away on a worn penny in modern times, then the whole coin distressed in order to hide what was done.

With closer 8's - they appear slightly wider around the H.

I said to Pete that I thought there should be evidence of the H as the bottoms of the 8's are visible, and using rarestpennies images I mocked up where the H should be - there are no remnants which would normally be visible, so its either altered very carefully or it wasn't an H to start with. The gap between 8's does look too narrow too. Edit: mock-up isnt exactly to scale but is a good representation.

His constituency is Newark apparently. I wonder if Kemi Badenoch has reflected on possible anagrams that could be made...?

The problem with those H buns is that being so close to the edge, the H is much more prone to wear than the date digits. I've lost count of "wrong" 1882 pennies offered for sale as "no H " pennies!

Yes it's not great. It's pulled most of the information off the convict records site i linked above. It might be able to pull up some stuff off one of the Genealogy website's about him though 🤞
