I received a copy of the Phoenix yesterday, front page an advert Royal mint price £30 our price £14.95

Now this is for a circulated George V1 pre 47 6d and a post 1920 George V 6d.

So RM charge £30.00

Pheonix £14.95

Value £1.00

This surely is a joke.

Yes but the pheonix gives you 2-4-1 on this item , but does still does not give value for money.

If they gave one away free to anyone requesting their list of overpriced rubbish I might have a bit of admiration for them

I sometimes get the Phoenix with Coin News. I have to pick myself up off the floor after I've finished laughing.

If they can sell overpriced tat, then good luck to them. Whilst we all look on in amazement at the prices they want and the fact that some people will pay that price, it is only the free market working as it should.

The same argument applies as for overpriced slabs. If the buyer is happy paying that amount, then it's a good deal for all.

Most of the disappointment arises when the time comes to sell, either the original vendor or the inheritor's realisation that their benefactor wasn't quite on the ball. You cannot dictate prices across the board, and for a business to survive, it has to make a profit. As a business you are better off selling 1 item at £100 profit, than 100 items at £1 profit each. That someone is willing to pay what you or me would say is overpriced is irrelevant. Should you want to buy the same items in the secondary market, the price you would be willing to pay would not shift from your current perception of fair value.

Lot of common sense there Rob.

I have just been looking at a slabbed GVI date run in an upcoming Auction. All high grade but way over estimated because they are Slabbed. Guess which Auction house. LOL

Mark

PS wouldn't mind getting a copy of Peck. The latest edition. You wouldn't have one at a sensible price would you?

Of course the ironic thing about "The pheonix" is the best thing you can do after reading a copy is burn it
