Rare Commonwealth Shillings on eBay....?

Have you seen the rare Commonwealth shillings on eBay from the one seller?.

Do they really command those sort of prices....it was pretty dark in the Mint in those days and most of the people there were illiterate so are those sort of errors that rare ..........dunno, just asking....

Not a series I'm familiar with.

However with Charles I coins, some die sinker's errors do sell for more, particularly if recognised in a publication such as Spink, or an example having been part of a well-known collection. However, general legend variations are perhaps not so sought after. Certainly with that series, my feeling is that the number of collectors who specialise in errors is very small.

And the general trend is, with most everything else, errors and rarity take a very much second place to condition these days. However rare it might be, if the coin doesn't have 'eye appeal' I doubt it will command the premium that it might have a decade or two back ...

Double struck edge lettering! Too many howlers for one coin! Also, a couple of features that highlight it...for example the stop after D of England wouldn't have been entered into the arch of the letter itself!

I did treat myself to early serving spoons which appear once or twice a year 1810 & 30.

I also bought mustard / salt /pepper pots at the same time.

I have absolutely no idea what is going on here ...is it some sort of code for our agents in the field?....."the owls are not what they seem" and all that??
