Paulus Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 It could just be a play of the light but ues it could be a bit bent, at 8 o'clock ish by the head of the angel on the harp.A C1 Briot is on my must-have-one-day list! Hopefully no-one else likes to acquire these (yeah, right!) Quote
Rob Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) For a better view, see below. For what it's worth, I don't think it was found in a drawer having been there for a few centuries. There is wax in it, which means it has to be illustrated somewhere. They weren't illustrating coins in catalogues in the mid 17th century. Edited November 5, 2014 by Rob Quote
Rob Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) So it's yours Rob?!!?Yep. I bid the same in Goldbergs as I was prepared to pay in St. James's 3 and on the day was outbid by one increment. The seller must have decided to cut his losses as an invoice arrived at my maximum 10 days later. In St. James's 3 it hammered at £3400 to Mark Teller, so about £4K all in. It would have cost me about $8K to match what the coin sold for in St. James's given the deterioration in exchange rate at the time. but in the Goldberg sale I coincidentally paid its Spink number in pounds i.e.£2870.Can't wait for a mint state example of a S1 to appear. Michael-Roo Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 yea and that wasn't a steal either When are you getting your 1933 penny washer, scott? If there'd be anyone I'd put my money on to find one it would be Scott! If there'd be anyone I'd put money on to find one it'd be Scott! 1 Quote
Coinery Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) yea and that wasn't a steal either When are you getting your 1933 penny washer, scott? If such a thing exists, I would back Scott as the man to fish it out! However, William Hill would only offer small odds against Scott...So, maybe he should find it, give it to me, we all place a bet on me as an outsider, share the pot, and go buy coins! Edit: very spooky, MR!Double edit: that's a shame, the new posting time is updated with the edit, when we actually posted in the same minute! Pah! Edited November 5, 2014 by Coinery Quote
Rob Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 So is it bent?It isn't perfectly flat, but then they were made on a rocker press, so rarely escape without a bow in the flan. It isn't creased if that is what you are thinking. Quote
Rob Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 although there is an obverse legend difference FRA instead of FRbetter then mine Yours is a Besly 1B die pair, mine is a 1A pairing. Quote
