azda Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Anyone watching/biding today? What caught my eye was the amount of hammered Gold that was passed. Estimates too high or grade? Quote
Rob Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) grade, and by extension the estimates. There were a lot of creased or otherwise impaired pieces, none of which appealed. There is also the usual number of items he puts in the sale which are from a US dealer and so import VAT applies on top of the hammer. Bids are reduced accordingly. I do see a slight softening across the board though.I bought one lot so far. Edited June 24, 2014 by Rob Quote

azda Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Maybe because the grades are off you are seeing the softening Rob Edited June 24, 2014 by azda Quote

Peter Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I just bought a couple of BIN newly listed jobbies....Mrs Peter will be signing these in....Big puppie eyes and Aldi best flowers required Quote
NRP Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 In fairness the quality lacked and anything high grade had very high estimates!! I think I bought 6 lots but nothing of note!! Quote
TomGoodheart Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I bought one lot so far.Anything exciting (to me that is!)? Maybe. I bought the E5/2That was the one! I thought the prices more realistic than of late. I'd be interested to see a photo if you take one Rob. Looked like a decent strike, but it can be hard to tell sometimes without viewing personally. Slightly irregular but full weight and as you say, a decent strike. There's some mileage left in it. Quote
Colin G. Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Does anyone know whether St James post out their invoices? Quote
Rob Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Does anyone know whether St James post out their invoices? They do. I phoned up and made a nuisance of myself to hurry them along, then got a phone call on Friday so I could receive the lots by Saturday. It is no longer done by Baldwins and is not so efficient as a consequence. Hopefully they will get up to speed soon. Quote
Colin88 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Has St James's severed their connection with Baldwins?.....Is Steve Fenton still there? Quote
NRP Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Yes Steve still owns it, they are not involved with baldwins since stanley gibbons took them over Quote
