Hi everyone :) I recently posted this coin in the CoinTalk website forums but haven't had much response yet so I thought I would give it a try here.

This coin is very lightweight - about 3.8g. and as you can see in the photos it is very thin and looks to have the rim missing.

Is it an error or somehow created through imaginative post-minting work?

Thank you!

Looks like a abnormally thin planchet going from the second picture, this would explain the coin still showing detail but with the appearance of a particularly weak strike.

By 1937 the designs on both ob. and re. and the striking processes are pretty much up to spec, so I would guess this away at just being a planchet at the time of mint.

Most likely partially dissolved in an acidic solution, whether as a lost coin, or wilfully as a practical experiment/prank.

I was thinking possibly the same explanation but wouldn't there be significant discolouring of the coin if you were to leave it in long enough for it to dissolve that much?

Discolouration from what? You are removing the surface toning and metal, to expose......metal. Any discolouration would have to be from whatever environmental conditions were present.

Definitely acid bath, maybe left in a glass of coca cola to see if it really can dissolve coins

I concur - looks classic acid attack (thin, lightweight, super-blurred shallow detail).
