goomolique Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Good morning everyone,Ive got another (silly) question:I keep my higher grade coins in capsules, now, what capsule should i use - same size as coin or slightly bigger?Ive got high grade half penny and i dont want it to get damaged. If i use 28mm i would have to force it inbut if i use 29mm coin is moving inside?I squeezed half crown into 32 mm once and now its stuck:)Thanks Quote
Coinery Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 You can also get those foam/plastic rings as 'grippers' I believe? Quote
Nicholas Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Leave about 2-3 mm to view the outside of the rim... There are 3 sides on a coin you know... Quote
Nicholas Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I like eagle 2*2" plastic holders with Mylar inserts. You can buy them directly from them in the US:https://www.eaglecoinholders.com/new/catalog/index.php?cPath=49_56Mylar holds the coin in place without movement (preventing any wear) and is long lasting and acid proof. Peter Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 A normal self adhesive 2x2 flip do a nice job.If you want to get the coin out it is cheap (cost of 1 2x2)A capsule seems to be the poor choice between flips and a slab.I bought a few capsules for misc coins that are not cabinet, tray, flip friendly etc (ie large). The reason i use capsules is because they give more protection than 2x2 flips. In 2x2s coins are protected only by very thin plastic layer. My main concern is coin rubbing capsule walls.Even if capsule is only 1mm bigger, coin still have some play inside. Will plasctic rub/wear/mark a coin? Peter Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I put 2x2 flips into plastic pockets.Britannia do 20 slot plastic pages for 3 holed albums.Numis mini wallets house 60 coins in 10nr pages. If you are worried about moisture store in the vicinity of a radiatorand make liberal use of silica gel sachets. For any lesser coins I put into flips,ID them and store them in the boxes the flips came in.(Long boxes sourced from the US)It was handy working on a USAF base a few years back. As for 'looseness' damage, that won't occur if 1) you don't shake the capsule and 2) you put some protection such as felt into the bottom of the capsule. Quote
