Looks about VF, but one of the clearest examples you'll ever see.

Ian Fall wants £2,600 for it. Rated R18 (6 to 15 extant)

Can't afford it, unfortunately.

Like a divi I've put 1862 instead of 1861, but there doesn't seem to be anyway of editing the actual thread title.

I think that this is where cleaned becomes less relevant....if you want one, then you arent going to find another any time soon and you sure as hell arent going to find one in that grade at a bargain price ever....its like Bob's 1877 narrow date...realistically,you are never going to find another in that grade, so if you want it then thats the price you have to pay to buy it.

There are only a handful of these type of coins that will ever

be available to you as a collector so you dont have a great choice if you want one and no-one is going to give you a bargain price. if you want it, you just have to put on your big boy pants and suck it up.

I think you are right about the 6/8 Penny Colin. They just don't become available that often. I have been thinking about a offer on it my self. BTW...the 1877 Narrow date now resides in Great Britain! Ha,Ha!

No wonder you made a trip around the British Isles. I hope you brought it with you to save the hefty tax bill that e buyer would incur lol

Azda,

I had booked the trip to Great Britain, prior to obtaining a suitable offer for the 1877 ND, but did take it with me for personal delivery, as a result of the offer.

I also want to let you all know how beautiful your country is! My wife and I were just amazed at the beauty of the hills (Mountains), Lowlands, etc. I also had a chance to partake of freshly cought "Haggis" on two (2) occasions! All I have to say about it is you would have to be mighty hungry to eat it on a regular basis! Ha,Ha. Here are a couple of pictures to show how it was served.

The first Haggis was served at the Torphichen Inn, and the second at the Prestonfield Mansion. Both tasted about the same!

You can dress it up as nouvelle cuisine, but at the end of the day, it's still a haggis :D

I completely missed Bob's 1877 narrow date ~ is there a pic of it anywhere ?

I noticed this too. A good example but the asking price seems a bit rich considering it's been cleaned. It'll be interesting to see if it sells!

It will indeed be interesting. In his write up, Ian says he would have been expecting twice the asking price if it hadn't been cleaned.

Bob, do you still have your 6 over 8 Penny that you had a few years back?

Michael, Look on Tony Crocker's facebook page, there is a pic of it there. I can't find mine right now.

Just.me,

I sold my 6 over 8 about 5 years ago. That sale made the "View of the Bay" in Coin News for that month. It was not as good a example that Ian has for sale, despite the cleaning.

Thanks Bob. I did have a look at Tony's page, but I couldn't see it. Maybe because I'm not a friend.

Thanks for that, Bob ~ apologies for the inconvenience.

That's easily the best 1877 narrow date I have ever seen. Mind, only ever seen 2 others, and they were both pretty much washers.

That was a nice one. No surprise Tony Crocker has bought it :)

Tony Crocker did not buy the coin, but he was one that was interested in it.

Is it still for sale?

Interesting, I note there was no sale. Or at any rate, Ian withdrew the coin from sale.

It was apparently sold privately. Not to me, I should add, though I did make a substantial offer. I'm sure the new owner will be very pleased with the addition to their collection.

I tried to buy it also...but fell short of what he required!

I didn't, Bob, no. If I hadn't bought any coins for the last year, I'd have been able to afford it, and probably made an offer. It is a gem, no doubt about it, as well as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

What always amazes me is that there are very serious collectors out there (e.g. The buyer if this coin and many others) who apparently have no wish to share their enthusiasm publicly. A very basic Google search will reveal the existence of this forum, but still the large majority of collectors prefer to remain anonymous.
