To check the metal, take a known 50% silver coin from your collection, hold it gently between thumb and forefinger and tap it with a pencil. Then take the 1933 crown and do the same. Do they sound the same? If all you get out of the crown is a dead thud then you've got a wrong 'un..

Although a dull thud is a good indicator of a cast, you would also get a less than perfect ring of varying quality with a defective flan where there is a crack, say, or an inclusion which would lead to a laminated flan.

Ive tapped with pensil and sounds same. Ive looked close and were its marked / scratched its black underneath? That normal?

Black would be the colour of old silver, but also appears on CuNi and pewter/base-metal coins!

It would be useful information I think on coins that were silver-plated, copper-based, coins (coins generally contemporary made to fool the public of the day) but I don't think you'll find that's the case with these wreath fakes, which have been created to fool collectors!
