1912 commonwealth coin

Hello everyone, I am 24 and have been collecting coins over a year now, some have been given to me from relatives others I have bought. Here is a coin I would like to bring to your attention on grading? It's a 1912 H Australian penny. There is no sign of rubbing and the coin looks to be in sound condition. What do you guys think and what could its true value be?

I'm afraid I have no idea about value of non-English coins, but someone here will.

If you look closely, you will see quite a few signs of wear:

- the details around the crown (fleurs de lys; cross)

- the hair and beard of the monarch

- the finer details of the clothing

But a lot of detail is visible and there isn't a huge amount of wear, so my estimate would be VF condition (Very Fine).

ETA: Having seen the UNC examples in the posts below, I would say no more than AVF (About VF)

Here's one of the best to compare with - 1930 is THE key date apparently for these. here

Its one of my favorite portraits.But I haven't managed to find an engraved example of one yet.

Ok cheers, looking at the uncirculated photos it is now clear what grade my coin is.

It maybe 100 years old but it has also seen a lot of circulation.Peck was generous with VF.

I think most of the world these days use US grading standards

My 2013 McDonald's Guide to Australian Coins and Banknotes gives the value of $48 AUD for a VF example, but half that would be what you'd expect to pay. Yours isn't quite VF so it'd be less than that.

They're not a low mintage year either so it's not exceedingly difficult to find a nice one in a bulk lot if you're persistent.

As for expert, well, that may be a touch generous.

I consider myself an enthusiast experienced in early Australian currency, however I know quite a few with more knowledge than I.

Always happy to share what I have learned though.
