The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins: Pre-decimal Issues (1797 to 1970) (Hardcover)

Thanks.

You'd struggle to find a negative comment on here, the author is a member and regular contributor to this forum! Congratulations on two counts...accidentally stumbling across a good book, and a great forum!

Welcome aboard!

Greg, Being from the USA, I was constantly mis-grading the coins of Great Britain. I really enjoy having the "Standard Guide to Grading English Coins". It is a great reference.

I echo all of that, are you specialising on collecting any particular coins?

100% good recommendations on this book I can see! Very glad I made the purchase on it. Now I need to just be patient and wait for the book to arrive. Tend to be quite a book worm! lol.

It is a great book. Just one minor negative; it took a while for me to quickly find the reverse I wanted to look for. The reverses are sorted by design rather than chronologically or by denomination. I agree its the best way to concisely include all the coins but an index would have been useful for me.

You could always look in the table of contents pages 2-4.

It is pretty much sorted chronologically, but within main design type, so all the Britannias are together, and all the 'lion on crowns', etc. Some reverses were recycled, the best known being the Victorian Jubilee Head florin, by George V. Once you know what the wear points are for that reverse, having the George V would be a little redundant.

However, others suggest there is an index, or table of contents?

What you really need is on Page 95!

Yes, an index would not add much more value, silly idea.

Excellent book that all Coin collectors/Dealers should have and abide by. I bought this book after collecting for over 20 years and still got useful information from it. Highly recommended ref book.
