Hi all iv got a 1885 pe nny which has some rainbow toning on the obverse not much on the reverse any ideas how i can get rid of it

Not seeing rainbow pies, maybe a dig in the cheek and wear..........Might be the scanner, but personally i can't see it my friend

Thats the bit that hasnt been rainbow toned,the rest has been flattened by the toning all i want is to get rid of the toning :D

Depends what's caused it. If it's oil / petrol it should be fairly easy, but if it's lacquer, not so sure.

My guess it PVC as there is very very slight marks to the reverse :(

Oh well, look on the bright side - at least it's not an 1869 or 1871. The 1885 is quite easily upgraded.

i'm saying the same, have a couple of 1953's that have some rainbow toning.. they came in sets so. probably the same reason

i sort of like it though.

why not just slab it as it is and some american might pay a fortune for it !

PS looks like chemical or heat damage to me

Zippy can get rid of Rainbow toning :)

Try a dip in PURE acetone and a rinse under water and a pat dry. :)
