How to compose a documentation about British Coinage

Dear all!

Please let me introduce myself as a new member of this forum. I am a citizen of Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. I am a collector of Canadian (1858 to date), modern Greek (1861-2001) and German (1871-2001) coins. In parallel I am interested in British coinage as well, because of...

...my companion in life. She is a collector of UK and the Commonwealth. As a sort of homage to her, I started to write a documentation /catalogue dealing about British Coins. Two more authors are involved in this project too. Aim is to show every minted denomination and date back from the times of Queen Victoria to date. Our work covers the reign of the monarchs George VI and Elizabeth II already, having a volume of 150 pages including a huge amount of colored pictures. A few dates and rarities are missing still.The manuscript is written in German, a translation i English will be performed lateron.

When I asked Declan for assistance regarding photos/scans of rare coins, he advised me to visit this forum. In this particular case I am looking for a high grade 1949 Three Pence piece.

What do you think? Do you have any comments?

Just to clarify, chaps, Christoph is looking for a picture of a good grade 1949 threepence for his book. The best I could offer wasn't even VF, so I naturally thought of you lot.

There were no silver threepences later than 1945.

Interesting question! I don't know about the legalities of using images that can be easily downloaded from the Internet, but I'd guess that it depends on the intended use. If you intend to include the images in a publication, then I think permission should be obtained and an accreditation given to the owner. Otherwise, it's probably not necessary.

I might include that picture in a publication. But that picture is the intellectual property of somebody. Therefore I would like to have permission granted in a written form, before I download and use any pics. Do you know if they usually give permission for that purpose?

Maundy 3ds certainly are found later than 1945 and these are silver.

What you are attempting to produce will inevitably have taken a lot of painstaking work on your part, so well dome on that.

You might find some more outstanding images in Tony Clayton's website He has a remarkable array of high grade coin photos, some very rare.

Hi threepence!

That is true! I had quite some work with that project. I usually scan in my coins (HP Photosmart B109a-m) with highest resolution.

I found that website as well, wich shows astonishing contents. I tried to make a contact once as well. But most likely the descriptions of my project seemed (←is that spelled correct? ) not reliable. If anybody has a hind how to make contact let me know please.

I presume that the sharp-cornered variety is the scarcer of the two? Is there a price differential? Or would that rely on Spink acknowledging the variety in their catalogue.
