You know I did think it was his wife at first, 'tache and all.

If not his wife, then who is she?

Sorry, but this is one occasion I have to agree with Dan Brown, there's NO WAY that's a bloke! Mary Magdalene is my favourite suggestion.

at £4.59 cant complain given there were only 4.48m minted

99p, was bought with 3 others so postage of £1.10 the 4 doesnt add much, and something I have been after for a while in a reasonable grade.

picked up this Double Tournois, looks like Henri III but the Legend starts at the top rather then at the bottom

1587 with Obv legend starting at 12 O'clock and with a point under letter 16 ie under the E of ET would indicate Dijon mint CGKL 44

Early French coins use "secret marks" to indicate mint and were gradually replaced by letter designations, although the secret mintmarks were officially replaced by letter designations in 1540

This double tournois has both the archaic mark of a point below the 5th letter of the obverse legend (the I of HENRI) and the more modern T both indicating the Nantes mint. The point beneath the 1st 8 of the date on the reverse is thought to be the mark of the engraver Mg Come Menard

and this one

The Obverse has the mint letter G for Poitiers, plus the O after POL for the mintmaster Ollivier. The reverse has the traditional secret mark for Poitiers the point under letter 8

A first for me. A cheap opportunity to get a Lucien Bazor 'Marianne' portrait:

But.. it's not a coin! Here's the reverse:

It's a zinc PTT (telephone) token!
