If it is of any help to you in trying to identify your coin, as a very rough guide, if it is slightly larger than a 1p Coin then it will be a Farthing. If however, it is slightly larger than a 2P Coin it will be a Half Penny. I hope that is of some help to you. Quote

However it looks as though it may be a partial 'Brockage.'That would occur when a coin sticks to the Die, and then when the next coin is struck, it leaves an inverted impression of the coin that is stuck.In the case of your coin. It looks as if the Reverse of a previous coin was struck onto the Obverse of your coin. Thus the partial inverted impression of 'BRIT' is clear to see.'Brockages' can range from examples similar to your coin to a 'Full Brockage' where the whole face of one side of a coin has an inverted impression. Peckris Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Looking at the proportions of portrait and legend to flan, that's a farthing (the halfpenny has a legend where the lettering looks much bigger and the bust smaller, while the penny - which yours isn't - is different yet again.).This difference only applies to copper coins - from the bun bronze series onwards (1860) it's much more difficult to tell the denomination unless you know the dimensions. I have seen similar coins made to look like a brockage by squeezing one coin against another in a vice. The result is that the coin gets damaged/thinner at that point, the edge gets damaged and the design on the other side of the coin gets weakened by being squashed (which in a true brockage should not happen).I am by no means an expert on errors, but that would have been my first impression on that one. The scrap value is about 3p at today's spot price, which for anything other than a significant rarity is not far short of its value. Quote
