DaveG38 Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Here's yet another Northumberland shilling from China. Almost certainly a fake, but any ideas how we can tell the difference between this and the real thing? It's pretty good and no doubt is of the correct silver fineness.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1763-NORTHUMBERLAND-SHILLING-COIN-/220701784098?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3362d9f822 Quote

Red Riley Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 It may have been produced from a genuine example, and then the only way to tell is to see two of them side by side and compare for similarities. It would almost certainly have been produced that way, so any marks on the original coin (and there is probably only one in the hands of Chinese forgers) would appear on all the coins. I kept this link but have never actually used it; http://www.forgerynetwork.com/Default.aspx. It may be of some use. Quote
