azda Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) I just thought i'd make you all Aware of a robbing bar steward Here's their ebay link to a coinhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261544730194?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D261544730194%26_rdc%3D1And here's the same coin again listed on the Muenzauktion websitehttp://www.ma-shops.com/thecoincabinet/item.php5?id=14〈=enCheck out the 2 differences in grade and price plus also read what they say about themselves in their ebay blurb.obviously a company not to be trusted and obviously to avoid in future, and just incase they decide to change the MA blurb after my email to them, here is their description there.Description England Shilling Grade: VF+ | AbbreviationsCatalog: Spink 2794Material: SilverWeight: 5.74 g Diameter: 31.00 mmENGLAND. Peckris Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I don't understand this at all Dave. Why would the same seller offer the same coin at two different prices and grades on two different outlets? You call them 'robbing bar stewards', but if someone was to buy it from eBay then the sellers would lose out comparatively speaking. I just don't see what they stand to gain from this, unless their eBay shop is the newer enterprise and they're using it with a few 'loss leaders' to get it going. (With a score of only 41 stars, they obviously haven't been around that long?) Quote
azda Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Well heobviously hinks that no one would recogbisethe same coin as (i'm assuming) he thinks no British buyers would use a German site. In his eBay blurb he's been around 20 years, but i've only just seen him in the last 2 months on the German site and as you say Peck he's relatively new on ebay.2 grades and 2 prices, one of which is for what i assume is for the German numpties. His eBay coin has also offers on which is to my mind quite a smack in the mouth for buyers from the German site. He also has an Eddie III groat with 2 different grades, although minimal but the higher grade is again on the German site Quote
Rob Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Carrying on the established traditions of the US TPGs then. Anyone would think that most hammered is mint state judging by the typical grading. Quote
azda Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 His reply just a few minutes agoHi there,Of course it should not be such, that the information of the same coin is so widely different. I can only be honest with you and say that I'm relatively new to British coins and that I have learned that when selling to the British market it is better to be conservative with grading. I actually overvalued a lot of my hammered coins in the early stages of launching my website (jan 2014) which resulted in no sales and angry comments! I have tried to adjust this accordingly, but I can see that I have left the coins at MA-shops unchanged. As always when selling items in different places, there will be some regional differences and as the costs (seller fees) are sometimes widely different, pricing can be slightly different. But yes, I completely agree, the listings are way off when compared next to each other. I appreciate you passing on this feedback to me and I hope my answer to you is at least some explanation if yet still very unprofessional.Hopefully you will be understanding of newcomers to the field of British coinage and refrain from talking too negatively of me or my business in the numismatic community. I assure you that I'm an honest dealer with no intention of doing anyone over.Kind regards,AndreasThe Coin Cabinet Quote

Will be interesting to see his course of action as I suspect this is a genuine mistake as I've had good experiences with him before. Perhaps someone planting his fields with them. Quote

Rob Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 What type of copy is it, has anyone handled one?Edge seams? Thick? Weight?Weight is 3g, so unless it is made of silver plated gold/platinum/iridium etc has to be thicker. Normally they weigh in around 1.42g ish. They shouldn't have a seam because he tours fairs etc making them by traditional methods. Quote

Reported.WRL is in the heading RobYes, but that doesn't tell the average person it is a reproduction. It's a very sly way of trying to cover your own backside. It doesn't say 'THIS IS A REPLICA'. I know WRL is one, you know it is too, but an awful lot of people see wrl in images without knowing its significance. The description says wrl, but also says in very good condition for its age. Methinks deception is intended. Quote
