The Bee Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 1860 Penny N over N (Z) Gouby Dd [I think !] also possible double struck R in REG Spotted the first error quite easily but it looks as if there is a second one, well unless I've misidentified the penny in which case that'll be the 3rd error ! I think no to the second - looks like just a nick and consequent metal displacement, going along with all the other dings, bashes and nicks that the coin has sustained. Compare the base of the first T in Britt for example for similar damage. Quote
The Bee Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 Many thanks Martin, Here is a close up of the A and another picture of the R in Reg - hopefully a bit better this time Quote
Bernie Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 It's either an A/A or R/R, two different die pairs. This appears to be R/R 1 Quote

I knew there were 2 die pairs A over A and not, but didn't know "not" was R over R instead! That's what you've got, Bee ! Ignore all my nonsense about dings then! Quote
The Bee Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 Many thanks Bernie, really helpful. So at some point I will need to find an A over A. And not at all Martin , I should have posted a clearer picture earlier I will add R over R to the description in the tray Very Best Regards Quote
secret santa Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 (edited) The R over R also has a die flaw from the top of the wreath to the rim. Edited November 11, 2024 by secret santa spelling 1 Quote
alfnail Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Both of the N/Z obverse dies develop flaws from the top leaf Richard, but slightly different positions. Please feel free to use these pictures if you wish!! 1 1 Quote
