I was thinking the same thing. Just checked their website and it looks possible for some bids to go beyond Tuesday but doesn't give a cut off time, just that they will not remain open indefinitely.

No coin will be knocked down until all active bidders on that particular item have been informed that they have been outbid – this is to stop auction “sniping” ie) a bidder bids 1 minute before the lot is due to end giving nobody else a chance to re‐bid. If this happens the lot will remain open until the other bidders have been informed. (Bidders will have their reservations on this process but it did work well on the Nicholson, Cooke, Alderley, Oxford, Douglas & Crocker and Workman collections and lots did not remain open indefinitely.)

I sent an e mail to Neil asking the following for clarification:-

Hi Neil,

Will the cut off point for new bids be midnight tonight - ie: the website
will be closed at that time?

If not, and someone outbids you, how long will you allow for the outbidded
bidder to make a further response. Some of us will need some sleep !!!

Cheers,

Michael

Hopefully, i'll get a reply.

ETA: Sorry for the above erroneous quote. It's come up on my main PC in this thread, being the one of the posts I quoted in the thread, and now it won't go. Nor can I even manually delete it, except for the text within it - sorry Pete, not your fault !

Hi Michael,
There is no real cut off time, bidding stops tomorrow but if there is active bidding on any item it will carry on until Wednesday in order to give all interested parties a chance, ofcourse Wednesday we would not allow a new bidder to join the bidding. We do this just to stop auction sniping where someone bids last second and the other bidder doesn't have a chance to respond. Therefore if someone came back and bid tomorrow evening on a coin you were bidding on , we would inform you Wednesday morning so you have another chance.

Kind regards,
Neil

Thanks for sharing Mike. I quite like this form of auction it's been much more pleasurable checking back on current bids and when being outbid on a more expensive lot, having a look at what else can then be afforded.

Totally agree, Matt. It's a more relaxed and civilized way to auction.

Any body know if the web site is showing the latest bids?

Last time the pages were updated appear to have been around 3.30 this afternoon.

Have any of you had outbid notices within the last few hours or have you placed bids since around 3.30 today that are now showing?

It should be showing all the bids received up to the update time. I'd imagine that tomorrow morning, many will convert to "sold".

So I will probably wake up in the morning to be greeted with a few outbid notices in my in box :P

I hope you get an update on the stuff you are bidding on, because I dont have a clue if I bid on 3 or 2, so dunno if I'm actually winning one

Same as me, I got a bit carried away on Sunday morning and bid on several but stupidly forgot to right it down as I was bidding. Lesson learnt, but I guess it will be a nice surprise in the morning.

Not necessarily. You must remain optimistic........he said, thinking of his own bids more in hope than expectation

:D

well if you do get outbid, tomorrow you will still have the chance to bid again on those lots.

Well that's me done. Had another look over my bids and keeping my fingers crossed for some good news tomorrow.

Good luck to you all and hope you get what you are looking for (unless you are bidding against me) :P

Managed to place a bid now just as a test, which in all fairness is most likely to get ignored
