Nojo84 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Curious if this is a C die letter on an 1862 half penny Quote
PWA 1967 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Yes i am curious aswell ?.Welcome to the forum i assume you will post a picture. Quote
Nojo84 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 Here are the images. Not sure if it is a C by the lighthouse. Please let me know what you think! Thanks! Quote
Rob Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Don't think so, but it's difficult to tell. The lighthouse top looks to be the wrong shape and the 'C' has a straight back which would also be wrong.http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=128&searchlot=1456&searchtype=2Here's a clear example. Bronze & Copper Collector Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Here are the images. Not sure if it is a C by the lighthouse. Please let me know what you think! Thanks!Definitely NOT a "C"....However, although on a small cellphone screen.... I'm going to stick my neck out, without having mine handy for comparison, it looks like it could possibly be a die letter "A".. Quote
jelida Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Does look like a letter to me, but so difficult to be sure on these worn coins. Is there enough detail to clarify which Freeman reverse it has? Can you see an 'LCW' anywhere? If it is a letter, I would go for ' B'.Really need better close-up pics.Jerry Quote
jelida Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 The 'letter' appears to have a vertical in the vertical plane of the lighthouse, hence 'B' for me, though it could be an 'A' at 45 degrees angle, as Paulus shows, but the letters I thought were usually correctly aligned, though I accept halfpennies are not really my thing .Jerry Quote

Mal Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Here's some scans that might help you decide if there is a letter there or not. I think you would have a hard time convincing a buyer that the letter is there. Note that it cannot be a B as the lighthouse is the wrong shape. Quote
Bernie Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 My money is on an "A", The sub variety die with "A" nearer linear circle.Just an opinion, could be wrong ! Quote
