relaxcraft Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Hi I have an 1872 gothic florin in pretty good condition, I've done a bit of research on it and found that it's die number 13. While searching for similar coins I've only come across 1 or 2 from this die number and they were really worn. Does anybody have any information on which die numbers fetch the best prices/ how many coins were minted per die. Thanks Quote
azda Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Prices come with grades, die numbers won't have much influence. Welcome to the forum. Quote
rooneydog Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Welcome relaxI picked up 11 at the weekend (low grade) of which 2 had die numbers which are not shown on Tony Clayton's page belowwww.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/dieno.htmljust a matter of time before it becomes "fashionable" to collect a die number series ( do not know if I will be around for it though ) Quote
VickySilver Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Yikes, please don't! I obviously like Vick silver but die numbers is over the top. On a few pieces, I have noted that there may only be one or two die numbers that come up (i.e. 1869 6d), but otherwise who cares. 1872 is a more common date, but would have its value if exceptionally preserved. copper123 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 You would expect a victoria die no on any coin to have had a least 99,000 other coins exactly the same made therefore there should be no unique or near unique die numbers .This really is not the case there are many cases of practically unique die number coins .As for collecting ALL OF THEM NAY NAY AND THRICE NAY.A lifetimes work me thinks Quote
relaxcraft Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 Thanks for the responces so far, I just thought as with some coins variations affect the price and 13 seemed to be quite a low number compared to the majority that I've seen 100+. Whats the best place to have coins valued/graded in the UK? Quote
rooneydog Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Here if you are thick skinned and want an honest answer - always subjective though. Quote
relaxcraft Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 To be honest coins aren't really my thing I've just got a collection mainly new stuff but I've worked out that that is the only old coin really worth anything as it is in pretty good cond, I'd say its about EF. I'm currently trying to find a buyer for the new stuff so I'm a bit busy but just wondered if there is a UK version of PCGS or something where it could be graded by an expert maybe put in a slab..???? how much would that cost? rooneydog Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 There is a whole section on funeral directors (tpg's) in the British Forums Quote

CGS are the only recognised UK grader (as far as I know), it will cost you £13.95 + 2-way postage if you value it below £200, £23.75 from £200-£2000Lots of pros and cons, but if high grade and selling it could well be worthwhilelinkFancy posting pictures?
